Ready-to-use injection solution of a synthetic releasing hormone that releases
luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the ante-
rior lobe of the pituitary.
Target species
Female cattle, horses (mares) and rabbits
Composition
Each ml Receptal® contains 0.0042 mg buserelin acetate equivalent to
0.004 mg buserelin and, as antimicrobial additive, 2 % benzyl alcohol as
preservative.
Indications
Cattle:
- For the treatment of infertility linked to follicular cysts.
- For the improvement of pregnancy rate, following injection at the time of AI
or during the luteal phase following AI.
- For the synchronisation of oestrus and ovulation (allowing fixed time AI) in
conjunction with prostaglandin F2α or progestagen administration.
Mare:
- For ovulation induction, when a mature follicle is present, thereby
synchronizing ovulation more closely with mating in mares.
- For the improvement of conception rate after administration during the late
luteal phase following mating or AI.
Rabbit:
- Induction of ovulation in rabbit does.
- Improvement of conception rate.
Dosage for each species, route(s) and method of administration
Cattle:
- For the treatment of follicular cysts with or without symptoms of
nymphomania 20 μg (equivalent to 5 ml solution for injection).
- For improvement of conception rate: 10 μg (2.5 ml) / animal.
- For synchronization of oestrus and ovulation before fixed time AI: 10μg
(2.5ml) / animal.
Mare:
- For ovulation induction: 40 μg (10 ml) / animal.
- For improvement of conception rate: 40 μg (10 ml) / animal.
Rabbit:
- Improvement of conception rate: 0.8 μg (0.2 ml) / animal.
- Ovulation induction post partum: 0.8 μg (0.2 ml) / animal.
The preferred route of administration is intramuscular injection (im), but
Receptal may also be injected intravenously (iv) or subcutaneously (sc).
Advice on correct administration
Use aseptic procedures to inject the product. Infection may occur if
anaerobic bacteria penetrate the tissue at the injection site, in particular
following intramuscular injection.
Cows which are not cycling at the initiation of the insemination season should
preferably be treated with a combination of buserelin and progestagens
rather than with a combination of buserelin and prostaglandins.
Contraindications
None
Adverse reactions
If you notice any serious effects or other effects not mentioned in this leaflet,
please inform your veterinary surgeon.
Special Warning(s)
Use during pregnancy and lactation
The product may be used to improve pregnancy rate. For most indications, it
is administered before or at the time of mating/AI to lactating or
non-lactating animals. In cattle and mares, the product may be safely
administered during the luteal phase following mating/AI to improve
conception rate. Safety following administration later during pregnancy has
not been demonstrated.
