Projectile Motion

The document details an experiment on projectile motion conducted by Arshia Aminian, Amir Ata Shareii, and Seyed Alireza Mirtooni. It describes the apparatus used, the theoretical framework of projectile motion, and presents experimental data comparing measured distances to theoretical values, calculating absolute and relative errors. The findings indicate a maximum relative error of 19% in the measurements.

Apparatus
solid steel ball
table with a certain height (H2)
ramp launcher (height of motion from the surface of table: H1)
carbon paper

Theory

Projectile motion can be described as the motion a body thrown with some initial velocity (here
initial v in vertical direction is 0 m/s or V0y =0), which then moves under the action of gravity alone.
The motion of a body starts at a constant speed in the horizontal direction while having a constant
acceleration of 9.8 m/s. in this lab report we tried to measure the horizontal distance (range) and
calculate our absolute and relative error comparing theorical value which is determined by below
formulas:

Initial Total mechanical energy = Final Total mechanical energy

1 1 1 1
m𝑣 2 + 2 I𝑊 2 + mgh = 2 m𝑣 2 + 2 I𝑊 2 + mgh , then Initial KE = 0 and final PE = 0 so:
2
1 1 2
mgh = 2 m𝑣 2 + 2 I𝑊 2 , because the ball is solid, we have: I (inertia) = m𝑅 2 , 𝑉 = 𝑅𝑊
5
1 2 20
considering X = vt and y = 2 a𝑡 2 so we finally sum it up: 𝑑 = √ 7 h2h1
Experimental Data:
