Group Number Three (03) Mict-Edu 1a.-1

The document presents a group presentation on derivatives from first principles, detailing the process of calculating the slope of a function as the change in the independent variable approaches zero. It includes examples of differentiating functions such as f(x) = x, f(x) = 2x, and f(x) = x^2 using the first principle. The presentation concludes with a summary of the derivative results for the given functions.

QUESTION:
derivatives from first principle
DERIVATIVE FROM FIRST PRINCIPLE

 Derivative by first principle is the process of computing slope of any

function by using definition where by small change of independent
variable is approaching to zero.
 The derivative of a functions is defined as the rate of change of a
function with respect to a given variable. Given the graph of the
function, the derivative can be interpreted as the slope of the tangent
line at a point
 The coordinate plane, slope of a straight line is given by the ratio of the
change in the y coordinate to the change in the x coordinate
DERIVATIVE FROM FIRST PRINCIPLE………..
▪ DERIVATIVE FROM FIRST
PRINCIPLE…….
▪ from the figure above as ∆x→0, point A approaches to
point B and a curve (or arc AB) tends to lines AB.

▪ The triangle ∆ABC is obtained after magnification of

small triangle which we can’t see by normal eyessine line
AB →0 like wise line CB→0 .

Δ𝑌
▪ also can be give a Slope = ⋅
Δ𝑋
DERIVATIVE FROM FIRST
PRINCIPLE……………..
example one for using first
derivative…………

 By using first principle differentiate f(x)= X

solution
f(x)= x
f(h +x)= X + h
𝑓 𝑥+ℎ +𝑓(𝑥)
from f’(x)= lim
ℎ→0 ℎ
example one for using first
derivative…………

𝑥+ℎ−𝑥
f’(x) = lim
ℎ→0 ℎ

f’(x) = lim
ℎ→0 ℎ

Therefore, f’(x)= 1
Example two(2)………

 By using definition differentiate f(x) = 2x

solution
f(x)= 2x and f(x + h)= 2(x + h)
𝑓 𝑥+ℎ −𝑓(𝑥)
from the formula , f’(x)= lim
ℎ→0 ℎ
2 𝑥+ℎ −(2𝑥)
f’(x)= )= lim
ℎ→0 ℎ

2 𝑥+2ℎ−2𝑥
f’(x)= )= lim
ℎ→0 ℎ
Example two(2)………

2 𝑥+2ℎ−2𝑥
f’(x)= )= lim

ℎ→0

f’(x)= )= lim 2ℎ/ℎ

ℎ→0
Therefore , f’(x) = 2.
Example three(3)………

By using first principle differentiate f(x)= 𝑥 2

solution
f(x)= 𝑥 2 and f(x)= (𝑥 + ℎ)2 .
𝑓 𝑥+ℎ +𝑓(𝑥)
from , f’(x)= lim
ℎ→0 ℎ
(𝑥+ℎ)2+𝑥 2
f’(x)= lim
ℎ→0 ℎ
Example three(3)………

𝑥 2 +2ℎ𝑥+ℎ2 −𝑥 2
 f’(x)= lim
ℎ→0 ℎ
2ℎ𝑥+ℎ2
f’(x)= lim
ℎ→0 ℎ
f’(x) = lim (2𝑥 + ℎ)
ℎ→0
Therefore, f’(x)= 2x.
