About FWF
Internationally recognized as a premiere program in the performing arts, French Woods Festival offers options in theater,
music, dance, circus, film, art and magic. In addition to our core activities, all the programs of a traditional summer camp are
included such as waterfront, sports, high ropes course, cooking and horse riding. Younger campers have additional guidance
and supervision, while older campers outside of their core activities can participate in community service and legacy projects
in additions to college prep courses. Campers are able to focus on one particular area, or choose to select a variety of activities.
We celebrate diversity and provide a safe environment for children to try new things.

French Woods is a place where your dreams are important. Counselors and adult staff utilize our facilities to make those
dreams possible. Our non-competitive programs give you a choice over which activities you take part in and the opportunity
to excel.

Our Program
We offer a unique individualized camping experience. Campers
completely determine which activities they will participate in.
There are 6 activity periods per day; 3 are called Majors and 3 are
called Minors. Majors are chosen at the beginning of each session
and are maintained for the three weeks. Minors are chosen daily
at breakfast. This lets you concentrate on the things that interest
you, while giving you a chance to try something new every day.

ACAâ Accreditation
French Woods Festival annually completes the peer review
process and meets the standard for accreditation. ACAâ
(American Camp Association) accreditation goes beyond basic
requirements for health, cleanliness, and food service, into
specific areas of programming including camp staff from director
through counselors, emergency management plans, health care,
and management. For more info about ACAâ accreditation, visit
www.acacamps.org.

Staff Training
Our staff receive over a week of training before campers arrive
that goes above and beyond the standards of the American Camp
Association. This includes training in specialty areas, to guarantee
safety in all areas of camp, from the bunk to the stage. All staff is
committed to the protection of children by completing thorough
background checks.

Security
Our staff takes measures during the day, including taking
attendance and walking with campers to and from activities, to
ensure safety by making sure no camper is alone. During the
evenings, at least one counselor from each bunk is “On Duty” and
with their campers. Our Non-Counselor staff also rotate On-Duty
evenings, monitoring all areas of camp. Security Officers are on
campus 24 hours a day.

A Note from CampMeds
Dear Parents,

This summer, your child’s camp has collaborated with CampMeds Inc., introducing a streamlined medication
program to enhance the safety and efficiency of medication administration for every camper. CampMeds will
manage both prescription and non-prescription medications, encompassing prescriptions, vitamins and
supplements. Committed to ensuring an enjoyable and safe medication experience, CampMeds values your
assistance with the following process.

Key Information:

Registration with CampMeds:

• All camp families must register with CampMeds if their camper is requiring medication.

Comprehensive Packaging:
• CampMeds will individually package all medications with details such as name, dosage, date and time. This
ensures precise administration for each camper.

Pre-Camp Delivery:
• Medications will be shipped to the camp in advance, ensuring readiness upon your child’s arrival.

Medication List Guidelines:

• Generic medications will be provided unless “Do Not Substitute” is specified by the physician on the
prescription.
• Indicate the exact brand if substitution is not acceptable.
• Specify the time of day for medication administration (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Bedtime). The default is
Breakfast if unspecified.
• Gummy medications will be substituted with equivalent chewable or dissolvable tablets.

Thank you for trusting us with your child’s well-being. We look forward to a healthy and enjoyable summer camp
experience!

camper(s) in activities, performances, parties & more while they're away.

You can download the Campanion app on any mobile device. Campanion also offers "Face Finder Technology" so you can
easily find photos of your child.

Your Campanion account login is the same as your CampInTouch, and all Forms and updates from camp can be accessed
from the app.

Check-In for anyone driving to camp

When you arrive to camp, you’ll drive up to several “stations” in our upper parking lot to complete your child’s check-in process
before they officially start camp. You’ll see staff directing traffic as soon as you arrive; please drive slowly and follow where
staff directs you.
Check-In Stations:
1) Health Screening – Staff members will quickly check your camper’s temperature. You will be asked to fill out a short
health screening questionnaire for your camper.
2) Forms – Our Program Director and Office staff will make sure all of your forms have been submitted. Please have hard
copies available (just in case!).
3) Luggage – Staff members will help you get luggage out of your car and take everything to the bunk.
4) Nurses – If you have any questions, our Nurses will be available to answer them.
5) Final Stop with Parents – Time to start camp! This is your chance to meet your child’s Head Counselor in person, take
photos, and say quick goodbyes before your child starts camp. A staff member will take your child through the final check-
in steps as you exit the parking lot. There are outdoor facilities and a snack pick up to set you on your journey back home.
We kindly ask that you keep conversations in this area quick, as we have many campers arriving on this day.
6) Lice Check – All campers receive a Lice Comb-Thru before going down to camp. More details on the check and treatment
are listed in the “Lice Treatment Form” in your CampInTouch Forms.
7) To the Bunk! – Now your child will receive their bunk assignment and a counselor will take them to unpack and get settled.

days extra in the event of unusual circumstance such as rainy weather. (Session 5 campers should adjust accordingly).
2) Use this check-off list as a guide. Adjustments should be made to provide for your child's individual interests and needs.
Our washers and dryers are commercial washing machines. Do Not send delicate or expensive clothing that cannot be
sent to the camp laundry.
3) Please use only duffel bags or soft suitcases. No hard trunks. (Limit two per camper). Remember to clearly label the

recommended sites that can help with labeling.
7) Campers should also bring items relative to their major areas of interest, e.g.. Musicians bring their instruments, tennis
players bring their racquets, skateboarders bring their skateboard, etc.

Theater: We recommend to bring a 3-ring binder, pencils, highlighters, etc. Theater kids must bring a pair of black dress
shoes (male) or character shoes with a heel or jazz shoes (female) for performances.
Equestrians: For safety reasons we have three strict clothing rules. Riders are expected to wear long pants while riding (jeans
are perfect). Smooth-sided shoes with heels are a must for fitting into the stirrups (no sneakers but rainboots with a heel are
fine). If your child does not have a riding hat, we have an assortment of sizes for them to pick from and wear. (Riding hats are
sprayed after each wearing.)
Musicians: If your camper is bringing their own instrument with them to camp, we will store it in a temperature-safe room in
our Music Building as soon as they arrive on camp grounds. Musicians must bring White Dress Shirt or Blouse, Black Dress
Shirt or Polo, Black Pants or Tea Length Skirt, Black shoes and socks.
Keep in mind that Session 1 and Sessions 4 & 5 can be cooler at night than Sessions 2 & 3.
9

Cell Phone & Wi-Fi Policy

For the past few years, we have implemented a No Cell Phone policy for all campers. We have found success in campers’
happiness and well-being while having the opportunity to get away from their phones.

Campers can bring any device, such as an MP3 Player or iPod, that does not have Wi-Fi or Data connection. Our IT
department can assist in downloading rehearsal music to a device for any camper.

One of the greatest benefits of camping is the chance for a child to establish real relationships in a controlled, safe
environment. Summer camp offers a great opportunity to learn about and navigate social situations while not being
constantly connected to and immersed in a digital/virtual world. Checking emails and texting, using Instagram etc. or
playing games while walking to activities, during classes or evening performances are counterproductive to French Woods
camp life. Additionally, it is developmentally important that children be allowed independence, so constant
communication with a parent can actually prevent growth on the part of the child. Furthermore, children attending camp
for the first time often go through a period of homesickness. Immediate contact with a parent often delays their immersion
into camp life.

Our counselors, head counselors and camp directors are with the children to assess concerns and will involve parents
when needed. At French Woods, children are allowed to email home after the first four days of camp. Additionally, any
child wishing to use a camp phone will be permitted to do so after the first week of each session. A classroom with
Internet service is available for schoolwork and college applications (again - under supervision).

Any cell phone usage will result in confiscation of the phone. If phones are confiscated, they will not be returned until the
child is signed out of camp for the season.

It is our recommendation that electronics be left at home, especially for children under twelve. We will not be responsible
for damage or loss. I hope that this news is received in the spirit with which it is written. Our only interest is to provide
the best experience for your child. If you would like to discuss this, Isaac can be reached at the camp office and would be
happy to talk to anyone concerned.

Sincerely,

Ron, Beth, and Isaac

Communication
Phone Calls
Camp phones are closed to campers during the first week of every session. This allows your children to adjust to the camp
environment. Even after the first week of the session, we do not encourage calling; we prefer that the children email or write
letters home. There are no phone calls during our 1-week Session 5.

Incoming Calls
Our camp office is open daily from 8:30am until 8:00pm ET. Please keep conversations upbeat and positive by focusing on
activities. You may leave a message for your child, that will be delivered at dinner, or you can request a return call from your
child's Head Counselor. In the event of an emergency, please contact Isaac.

Outgoing Calls
During the last two weeks of each session, your child will be allowed to make three phone calls by appointment with their
Head Counselor during free times after breakfast (8:45am-9:15am), lunch (1:45pm-2:00pm) or dinner (6:30pm-7:30pm). If you
have any questions or problems please call and speak with Isaac. Make sure to add our phone number to your contact list
so you know who’s calling! It’s disheartening to a child whose parent does not pick up because they did not recognize
the number. All calls will come from (607) 637-8400.

Camper E-Mail
Campers may send and receive e-mail after the first 4 days of camp. Each child at French Woods is provided with an e-mail
address on our mail server*. It is firstnamelastname@frenchwoodscamp.com (i.e. johndoe@frenchwoodscamp.com) Please
use this address instead of any child's personal email address. If your child has a hyphenated last name, do not include the
hyphen - for example it would be lucassmithrobinson@frenchwoodscamp.com. When in doubt, call the office to verify the
correct email address.
It is also important to use @frenchwoodscamp.com and NOT @frenchwoods.com. *There are no emails to/from campers
during Session 5.

Packages
Send UPS and FedEx Packages to our street address at the French Woods office in care of your child at 199 Bouchoux Brook
Road, Hancock, NY 13783. DO NOT SEND ANY FOOD including snacks, candy or cookies. All packages are opened by our
staff before delivering to your child. Any food including snacks, candy, and even Godiva chocolate or homemade cookies will
be immediately disposed of. These items will not be saved or returned to the sender. Please do not add to this problem. Tell
other family members of our policy.

Postal Mail
Send stamps, envelopes and writing supplies with your camper(s). Additionally, they will be able to buy stamps and envelopes
at the Camp Store. All mail sent via the US Post Office must be addressed to your child c/o French Woods, P.O. Box 609,
Hancock, NY 13783. Letters are delivered at dinner. Please make sure you put your child's full name and bunk number on the
envelope (you can get the bunk # after the start of camp).

Leaving Camp Grounds

Under no circumstances will a child be permitted to leave the camp grounds for any reason. There will be no exceptions to this
rule. If a parents or guest takes a child off the grounds at any time, you are removing that child from the camp's custodial
responsibility. At that point the child will no longer be considered a camper at French Woods and will not be re-admitted, nor
will you receive any refund for any unfinished sessions. This includes during our Visiting Days.

Please keep in mind when you visit French Woods that we strive to create an environment rich in experience, attention, fun,
and individual achievement. Our rules are few, but strictly enforced. We urge you to remember that this is a children's camp
and although you may be our guest, the children come first.
12

Theater & Show Etiquette

Please assist us in teaching our campers proper theater etiquette by observing the following rules of etiquette at all of our
performances. Each rule is based on our desire to keep your children safe and to allow them the best possible experience in
performing. Remember they have been working very hard to prepare for these performances.

1. NO FLASH PHOTOGRPAHY/No taking photos/videos with your phone. Flash photography, tripods, using your phone
or tablet as a video camera are all potentially dangerous. Children require concentration to give their best performance.
Flash photography is distracting to performers, both young and old. Avoiding flash photography will ensure safety for all
campers on all of our stages.

2. Respect for performers and other audience members. No speaking, playing/using a cell phone or tablet, blowing
bubbles or smacking chewing gum or standing up during a performance. Children performing at French Woods are doing
so at a variety of levels. Our supportive environment helps foster their improvement. Speaking or otherwise distracting
the children from a performance can crush a fragile ego and distract those who may be enjoying the performance. This
includes getting up in the middle of a show for a bathroom visit. In case of an urgent need, please wait until a blackout or
pause in action before quietly removing yourself from the theater.

3. Don't leave early. Your child is not the only child who worked hard to put together the performance you are attending.
Please respect the hard work of all the campers.

High resolution photographs are taken of every camp production. These photos are posted on the Campanion app
throughout the summer and can be downloaded for free at low resolution. Videos are taken of every production, and links
will be emailed to you after editing. Performances at French Woods are done with care and a feeling of utmost respect
for the children doing their best on stage. Thank you for helping us make sure our stages stay a safe place for all of our
campers.
13

Camper Finances
PED
French Woods has always been proud that your child's tuition is completely inclusive. Sometimes campers incur expenses
that are completely unexpected. For this reason, we require that each camper has a Personal Expense Deposit (PED) of
$200.00. This sum will be used for emergency expenses and purchases at the Camp Store. For example, they might include
the repair of a pair of eyeglasses, purchase of prescription drugs, fees for emergency orthodontics or the restringing of a
guitar. The Camp Store sells camp gear (clothing), snacks and assorted necessities such as a hair brush, toothbrush/paste,
shampoo, batteries, rain poncho, etc.

In most cases, PED balances are automatically carried forward should the camper return in 2026. Upon written request to
admin@frenchwoods.com, all unused portions of a child's PED will be returned to any unregistered child at the end of
September 2025. Parents also have the option of donating the leftover funds to the Hancock-French Woods Arts Alliance (a
501(c) 3 organization). One full year after attendance, any unclaimed monies will be added to the Alliance for the benefit of
its college scholarship fund. Please note that families who receive any financial assistance reduced fees or scholarship are
not eligible for a PED refund.

Spending Money
In addition to the PED, we recommend that campers bring along a few dollars for any out-of-camp trips, miscellaneous
sundries or daytime/evening snacks. A sum of $30 per session for spending money should be adequate. This "envelope
money" is used at the child's discretion. There are vending machines on campus.
Broadway Show Excursion - If your child is going to attend a Broadway Show in NYC, we suggest an additional amount
for spending money. PED money cannot be used for this.

Remind your child that this money should be put in an envelope and locked in the safe in the camp store. This is very important
to prevent loss. There is NO reason for a camper to keep money in the bunk. The camp cannot be responsible for any missing
money.

Camp Store & Canteen

The Camp Store is open after dinner every day, and all day on "Lazy Days". All purchases from the Camp Store may be charged
to a camper's PED account. Campers are required to wear a French Woods shirt on any out of camp trip. These shirts are
available for purchase at the store and the cost will be charged to the PED account.

The Canteen is open six nights a week after evening activity. There campers can partake in pizza, ice cream and snack all for
free. Do not send food items with your child. It is strictly forbidden and any and all food will get thrown out. There are vending
machines snacks and drinks available all day for purchase, and separate spending money should be sent with your child for
any vending machine purchases. We cannot take out from your child's PED balance for vending machine purchases.

Guide to Homesickness
Homesickness
Many first-year campers have never been away from home for an extended period of time. It is natural that their worries about leaving and
missing friends and family could be carried to camp. It is with this in mind that we offer the following suggestions to parents of the first-
time campers and returning campers.

Homesickness is a natural result of changes in a child's environment. Parents can take courage from the fact that many campers do not
experience this, but those that do, recover swiftly. All of us at camp, from the Camp Directors down, are prepared to help any child with the
adjustment, expedited with the cooperation of the parent.

These suggestions are designed to help you prepare your child for the enriching experience that camp provides.

At Home
If your child exhibits concern about going to camp, encourage them to talk to you about it. Many campers are worried about the unknown
and are looking for understanding. It is helpful to tell your child that such concerns are normal and that many other campers feel the same
way. If there are specific worries, let the camper call/zoom the camp office. Often specific answers are not necessary after the child has had
the opportunity to express themself to a receptive ear.

Do not be ambivalent about the length of your child's stay at camp. There should be no trial periods. They are there for a full session and
should understand this. A "try-it-out" approach is a sure loser, certain to create a serious homesickness problem at camp. Conversely, no
matter how enthusiastic you may feel about the benefits of the experience, do not make your child feel they must go to camp, rather work
with your child to feel the same excitement you do.

Reassure your child that everything at home will be the same as when they left. Please notify us of any upsetting event which may have
occurred prior to camp, or is to occur during the summer. This might include illness or death in the family, poor school grades, separation or
divorce, or moving to a new house or city. We are here to help.

Good-byes
Make your parting brief and pleasant when seeing your child off at the bus, the airport, or at camp. Long good-byes and floods of tears are
upsetting. The same applies for visiting days too. Prepare them.

Please be sure you complete the medical forms/health history and camper profile forms as thoroughly as possible and attach a current
head shot/photo. While the camp is designed to provide instruction and recreation in many areas, certain campers may have a more
rewarding time if encouraged in specific activities. Our knowledge of your child's interests (and phobias!) can help in arranging their most
appropriate program from the wide variety of activities offered.

At Camp
Your cooperation is needed to ensure a successful summer for your child. Most children are resilient and adapt successfully to new
situations. Parents, however, sometimes find it difficult to adjust to their child being away from home.

To prevent any negative effects on your children:

1. Write frequently with good news and a cheerful tone - chatty and pleasant.
2. Try not to telephone except in an emergency. Contact the Directors if you have a special concern. Be assured we will contact you if
your child is experiencing difficulties. Remember, children have access to phones should they need to call you after the first week of
Sessions 1-4.
3. Should you receive an upsetting call or e-mail, telephone the camp and ask for Isaac or your child’s Head Counselor. We will help.

Conclusion
Camp is an experience that cannot be duplicated in any other environment. You are offering your child/children the opportunity to achieve
the poise and confidence that comes with both the mastery of skills and the sociability developed as a vital member in a structured and
democratic community of their peers. At French Woods, we assemble the best staff available. Countless hours throughout the year go into
the preparation and evaluation of our program. We feel you have chosen wisely in sending your child to French Woods and with your help,
we are well prepared to serve the needs of today's children.

Medical Policies & Procedures

Here are some pre-camp suggestions that will help your camper(s) have a safe and healthy camp experience:

• Be sure to take your camper(s) for a pre-camp physician’s exam. This is required and the exam must take place within
12 months of the camp start. Take our forms with you to the doctor. All forms are available through your CampInTouch
account online. Call the office if you need assistance.
• When filling out your camper’s forms, please be as honest as possible. It helps our medical and nursing staff to know
if there have been any changes in behavior, new medications, recent hospitalizations, and even changes in their social
or family lives.
• Talk to your camper about “good food.” It’s fine to have a hotdog once or even twice a week, but maybe not every
night. Kids need fruits and vegetables, healthful carbohydrates, proteins, and even fat. Our Executive Chef, Ryan, and
his culinary team take great pride in all of the healthy offerings at every meal and remember we are nut-free.
• Discuss the importance of water & send your camper with (2) refillable, name-labeled water containers. There are
Igloos and water dispensers all over the camp. This is a great reason for campers to stop by the Wellness Center and
say “hi.” We love smiley, healthy camper faces to pop in and get some refreshing water!
• Good hygiene is important. It’s vital that your camper knows that daily showering, brushing of teeth and frequent hand
washing should not be forgotten.
• Medications MUST be kept in the Wellness Center, including over-the-counters, supplements, and vitamins. This is a
regulation of the State of New York. The only medications that can be with a camper are emergency meds (such as
rescue inhalers), topical acne products, prescription shampoos, and those types of medicine. Please be sure to sign up
with CampMeds (campmeds.com)
• No one wants to see lice while they’re at camp... not the nurses, not the counselors, and certainly not the campers.
We want to make sure that we treat the problem while simultaneously preserving the dignity of the camper. In order to
protect the camp, all campers will be head checked when they first arrive. Talk to your camper about not sharing hats,
wigs, brushes/combs, or hair accessories. Their counselors will teach them about sleeping head to foot in the bunks.
Please read the following information and thank you for your cooperation!

Medical FAQs

How many nurses and doctors are on staff during the summer?
Our Wellness Center will have two doctors and at least 8 nurses on staff each session.

When will my camper receive their medication?

Unless otherwise directed, all medications are given out during breakfast. Our nurses will be in each dining hall, and
campers will need to come to their table during the meal for their medications. Nurses will be available the same way
during lunch and dinner for any medications that need to be taken during the day. For night-time medications, campers can
go to the Wellness Center with a counselor after Evening Activity.

Do I need to send my camper with allergy pills or pain relievers just in case?
Nope! Our Wellness Center is well stocked with many common medications. Make sure to fill out the Parent Authorization
and Healthcare Provider OTC forms so our nurses know what your child can and cannot take. The Healthcare Provider OTC
form must be signed by both your child’s physician and you (parent).

Where is the nearest hospital?

There are several hospitals within an hour’s drive of the camp. The closest is Garnet Health Medical Center in Callicoon, NY.
In Binghamton, there are Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Wilson Medical Center, and Binghamton General Hospital; any of
these three would be used for more major injuries.

Medical Continued
Common Treatments at French Woods

Treating fever: For a temperature of 100.5° F or 38° C with no other symptoms, unless directed otherwise, campers will be
treated with antipyretics, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen. Campers/staff with fevers > 101° F will be kept in
the Wellness Center until fever-free for at least 24 hours unmedicated. Any camper staying overnight will be supervised by
the nursing/medical staff and parents (or guardians) will be contacted regarding camper’s status. Once released from the
Wellness Center, campers will return to their bunks and parents will be updated.
Treating GI upset: We have a “low and slow” approach when it comes to treating “tummy troubles” at camp. There are a lot
of nutritional ways to deal with constipation and diarrhea, nausea, and general stomach upset. If 24 hours of these techniques
are not successful, then we move to a more medicinal approach.
Treating headache: Unless directed otherwise, we treat headache with NSAIDs, hydration, nutrition, and TLC. Headaches
that are accompanied by dizziness, nausea/vomiting, or something more serious are examined by our camp physician.
Treating infection: Our camp physicians are the only ones who are able to diagnose infection. After doing so, a call is placed
to a parent/guardian for permission regarding follow-up medication or potential need for consultation with a specialist. If a
camper is on prescription medication that has been ordered during the session, they will go home with any remaining doses
upon leaving for the summer and returning home.
Treating fracture: Any suspected fracture is going to need further diagnostic information at one of the local hospitals for x-
rays. We are able to stabilize our patients, offer them pain medicine, and safely transport them to the hospital or clinic. This
will always require the permission of a parent/guardian, and campers will always be escorted by a nurse, as well as a
counselor, depending on the age of the camper. Our nurses are well equipped to be the liaison between the hospital, camp,
and caregivers. X-rays are sent home with campers should follow-up be necessary after camp.
Treating lice: French Woods has partnered with LiceXChange, a well-known lice treatment and prevention agency. All
campers and staff will be screened upon arrival and must be clear of any lice or nits to enter camp. In the event you receive a
call from us on opening day, you will be given the option of picking up your child & treating them at home or having
LiceXChange treat them on site. If you choose for LiceXChange to treat your child, the cost for their service is $375. All
LiceXChange products are free of harmful chemicals and are included in the cost of treatment, plus the accompanying
“maintenance.”
Please check your children before you send them to camp. Here are some measures you can take at home to help prevent
the outbreak and spread of lice:
Do not share hats, brushes, towels, hairbands, etc. with friends or family members. Use hair products with Tea Tree Oil in
them. Head lice are highly offended by tea tree oil, and it makes an excellent preventative. Add 10 drops of tea tree oil for
every 2 ounces of water in a spray bottle. Spray liberally on your child’s head, hats, bedding, furniture and car upholstery.
Other products are also available. After each person uses a helmet or hat spray it with disinfectant spray or tea tree oil spray,
especially for sports and activities that require helmets, hats or costumes. After sleepovers put your child’s pillow and
sleeping bag in the dryer for 30 minutes to kill any stray lice. Do periodic screenings to help catch lice before they hatch or
spread.

Session 5
Our one-week “Session 5” gives new campers the opportunity to experience camp in a shorter time frame compared to our
three-week sessions. Session 5 is a great introduction for campers who have never been to sleepaway camp before, or if your
child has only one week of availability in their busy summer. All activity areas are offered in this week, just with a few
differences from our three-week sessions. Here’s a few things you should know going into Session 5!

Arrivals
Car: Drop-Off at Camp
Our Sunday Check-In on August 25, 2024 will be from 2pm – 4pm with the same drop off system as our 3-week sessions
(see page 7).

Bus & Air

Arrivals by Bus and Air follow the same system as our 3-week sessions (see page 6). Please refer to the Transportation Form
in your CampInTouch for more details on times.

Departures
Car: Pick-Up at Camp
You are welcome to take your camper home at the end of the day on Festival Day (Aug 31). The vast majority of Session 5
campers will go home with their parents on Saturday, August 31st. Any campers being picked up on September 1st will need
to be picked up between 7-8am.

Bus & Air

Departures by Bus and Air follow the same system as our 3-week sessions (see page 7). Please refer to the Transportation
Form in your CampInTouch for more details on times.

Programming
Session 5 offers programming in all activity areas, with 3 Majors and 3 Minors for the week (see Page 2). For Session 5 only,
parents will need to fill out a “Majors & Minors” Form emailed to them by our Head Counselors that will allow your camper to
choose their activities before they get to camp. Campers will confirm their selected Majors & Minors following Orientation on
August 25th. This way, campers can hit the ground running the next day with a full day of programming.
One difference with Session 5 is that there are a few program areas where there is a double period. Theater, Magic, Film and
Rock and Roll – all of which are performance-based have a two-hour block each day. The two-hour blocks give the kids 10
hours of rehearsal for the week as opposed to just 5. We, of course still offer activities in theater, dance, music, rock and roll,
circus, art, sports, film, waterfront, horse riding, cooking, magic and more that can be either majors or minors each day.

In Theater, we offer a range of performance opportunities. For a combination of musical theater and scene work, our
Showcases are offered for all age ranges. Groups will be split into Lower, Middle & Upper Camps. Additionally, as an example,
we offer classes like Monologues, Songs & Scenes, Audition Prep. No auditions are needed for any of these opportunities.

We have special night time activities and traditional canteen after the daytime activities.

Visiting
Session 5 Festival Day will be August 31st, 10:00am-4:00pm. All activities during Session 5 will showcase skills during the
Festival Day, from Theater and Dance Showcases, Orchestra, Magic Shows a Film Festival, Rock and Roll Bands, an Art Fair
to Circus and Equestrian demonstrations. We recommend that all parents come to visit camp on this day! It will be fun for
everyone. Please see page 11 for our full Visiting Policies & Procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does my child pick their majors & minors?
Majors are chosen after the first full day of camp or, “6 Minor Day”. This is when auditions and placements are held, so campers
will be able to hit the ground running with their full schedule the next day. All campers should stick with the Majors they have
chosen throughout the session. Minors are chosen daily, so campers are able to switch things up and try something new every
day at French Woods.

Where do campers eat?

All meals are held in our state-of-the-art dining hall. The dining hall is split into two sections, with younger campers on one
side and older campers on the other. Campers will sit with their bunk for every meal. The dining hall is air-conditioned and
has backup power generation. Our dining hall is complete with hot food lines, a vegetarian line, an alternate food line, a salad
bar and drink stations. This year we’re even introducing a new chick nugget bar! There is sure to be something for everyone!

Where do campers live?

All campers live in a cabin or “bunk”, with a bunk-bed style space. There are 10 to 12 campers in each bunk, with 3 to 5
counselors. Each camper will have at least two cubbies, one drawer and space in the bathrooms to store their personal items.
Campers will be assigned to a bunk with other campers their same age. If your child would like to be placed with a friend,
please make sure both request each other in the “Bunk Requests” Form.
Click this link if you’d like to see a tour of one of our bunks.

What is prohibited from camp?

French Woods is a Nut-free campus. This includes meals in our dining hall. Please do not bring anything containing nuts.
The possession or use of tobacco, narcotics, liquor, vaping or any (other) intoxicants or non-prescription drugs is
expressly prohibited both on and off camp premises. Violation of these rules or other reasonable regulations will result
in dismissal from the camp without tuition refund. The camp also reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose conduct
is unsatisfactory or is detrimental to the best interests of the camp without tuition refund. Every teenager at camp is
required to sign a declaration prior to attending French Woods that confirms they are aware of the above referenced
rules and that they will abide by them.

Will my child receive extra care as a first-time camper?

Yes! We make sure each first-time camper is welcomed as soon as they step foot onto camp. They will be introduced to
other first-time campers, as well as returners who know the ropes. Throughout the session, we do special events for first-
timers to make sure they have the best time. We also have a Big-Sibling program at camp for first-time campers 11 and
under; they’ll be paired with a returner 13 and up who will get in touch with them before camp, as well as being their first
friend during camp. Within the first days, first-time campers will realize it’s cool to be “the new kid” at camp!
