Learning Competency :In this lesson you are


going to learn about structure and language
features in report texts so that you are able to
understand the meaning of the text correctly.
Learn about it !
In our daily activities, sometimes we hear
our friends reporting something to us.
How to understand it? In the end of the
lesson we are expected to be able to
understand report text.
Report text
Report text is used to describe something
in general. The social function or purpose
of this text is to tell information about
things,animals or people in general.
General classification. This part gives a
brief information about the topic of report text
and gives the definition of the subject

Report text consist of


A report usually
two parts :
consists of two parts
Description. This part gives facts about the
topic of the report. It describes the features of
the subject
The language features of report text
Using general nouns, e.g. “penguins are aquatic
animals.Using relating verb for describing the
characteristics, e.g.they can swim from 6 & to 12
hours km/hour even until 27 km/hours
Using present tense to state something in
general truth or scientific fact, e.g. they live in
antarctic or south pole.

Whales are sea living mammals. They therefore breathe air but can not
survive on land. Some whales are very large indeed and the blue whale,
which can exceed 30 meters in length, is the largest animal to have lived
down earth. Superficially, the whales look rather like a fish, but there are
important differences in its external structure; its tail consist of a pair of
broad, flat horizontal paddles, compare with the tail of a fish that is
vertical. It has single nostril on top of its large broad head. The skin is
smooth and shiny and beneath it lays a layer of fat. This is up to 30 cm in
thickness and serves to conserve head and body fluids.
