Assignment 2 Guidelines and Marking Criteria

Title: Assignment 2: Applied Teamwork Plan

Marks: 40 (which is 40% of the unit grade)
Due: Prior to 11:59pm on Monday 2nd June (week 5), 2025.
IMPORTANT NOTE: if you are not able to submit your assignment by the due
date, you must advise both your local tutor and the Unit Assessor. The advice
must be sent no later than 24 hours before the due date.
Task: Using the Team Effectiveness Model (TEM) as a framework, develop a plan for
undertaking a team-based project in your workplace1. As part of the plan, students
are also to explain how a particular motivation theory, covered in the unit, will
be applied to the project; i.e. how it will be used to encourage team-member
commitment.
An example assignment is provided in the Assignment 2 folder on BlackBoard.
Important – the aim is not to develop a comprehensive ‘project management’ –
type plan. For example, there is no need to include a timeline chart or identify
specific deliverables. Your application of the TEM and selected motivation
theory should be the principal focus.
A suggested structure for your plan (the document you submit) is provided below.
The plan should be 1200-20002 words in length and contain at least five but no
more than eight references.
A collection of academic journal articles have been made available for students to
use on this assignment (see ‘Asmt 2 library’ file). At least 3 articles from the
collection must be referenced in the discussion. The remaining references can
come from other journal articles or other source types (e.g. website, newspaper,
etc).
Purpose: This assignment provides the opportunity for students to apply a key OB concept
(managing teams) to their own workplace context.
Format: Your plan should be in the form of a single ‘word’ document (doc. or docx)3. See
below for details of the particular components and formatting features that are to
be adopted.
Submitting: Ensure that the assignment document has been saved in your name (e.g. Patrick
Gillett.docs). All assignments are to be submitted through ‘Turnitin,’ which can be
accessed from the ‘Assignment 2’ folder on Blackboard. The link will be activated
in week 4.
Feedback: Students who submit their report by the due date will receive feedback within 1
week. This feedback will be in the form of a marking rubric and a copy of their
assignment document with electronic comments from the marker.

1
The assignment can also be based on a previous workplace, or even the workplace of a friend or family
member. As a last resort, students can ‘create’ a typical project. Do not use a complex project.
2
Students should avoid writing more than 2000 words.
3
Pdf documents cannot be submitted.

GenAI May be Used
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools, such as ChatGPT and Copilot, may be
used for this Assessment Task. If you use GenAI tools, you must use them ethically and
acknowledge their use. To find out how to reference GenAI in your work, consult the
Library’s APA 7th Referencing Guide. If you are not sure how much GenAI-created content
you can use in your assignment, please contact me (the Unit Assessor) to discuss. If you use
GenAI tools without acknowledgment, it may result in an academic integrity breach against
you as described in the Student Academic and Non-Academic Misconduct Rules, Section 3.

Components
It is not necessary to attach an Assignment Coversheet to your work. However, the
following components are required:
a) Assignment ‘Coverpage’ (Title page) - identifying the unit name & code, assignment title,
student name & ID, and the word count. This is a document that students develop
themselves; i.e. there is no Coverpage template. It should not be numbered.
b) Content; i.e. your ‘plan’. Take note of the following key features -
 Include a Table of Contents (ToC). An Abstract or Executive Summary is not
required.
 Appropriate referencing skills must be demonstrated. Students are asked to use
Harvard or APA. Please do not use the Footnote method. Regardless of the
referencing style you choose to use, ensure that page numbers are included with the
in-text reference details.
 Quoting is only permitted when providing the definition of a concept. Paraphrase all
other information obtained from your various sources.
c) Reference List. This content is not included in the word count.

Formatting Features
o Apply page numbers. Page 1 comes after the ToC and is placed bottom right hand corner.
o Font style: Times New Roman, 12pt, justified, 1½ line spacing.
o Margins – top and bottom to be 2.54cm. Left and right to be 2.54cm. No page borders.
o Spelling - if using a Microsoft package, specify Australian English language/grammar
when running your spell-check.
o Writing and grammar must conform to the standards of a professional report.

Report Structure
1. Organisation Overview
 Provide a brief description of the organisation; e.g. the industry it is in, its size,
mission/purpose, etc.
2. Project Description
 Briefly describe the project and nominate a specific objective, one that can be
measured and will help to determine the project’s success.
3. Team Type
 Explain the particular ‘type’ of team that will be adopted for the project and why, or
how, it is appropriate.
2
 Identify the number of team members and who the leader will be (if there is one).
4. The Team Effectiveness Model (TEM)
 Introduce the TEM and explain its value and purpose.
 Select and apply two factors for each component of the TEM (six in total). Explain
how you will address the factors in your particular team project.
Note: if the characteristics of individual team members (e.g. their abilities and
personality) are discussed, it should be done so objectively and tactfully.
5. Motivation Theory
 Discuss a particular motivation theory that will be used to encourage team member
commitment to the project. Explain why the theory is appropriate for the team and/or
project and how it will be applied.
6. Conclusion and Recommendations
 Briefly highlight the value of applying the TEM and the selected motivation theory to
the particular team project.
 Identify and briefly explain several key recommendations for applying, or not
applying, the plan. Are there any key factors that need to be considered?

context. One area of the information presented is slightly unclear or
not fully developed.
3) Credit. A good effort has been made to establish the project
context. Several areas of the information presented are slightly
unclear or not fully developed.
4) Pass. Further information is required to more clearly establish the
need for the project and/or its context.
5) Unsatisfactory. The information provided does not demonstrate a
clear need for the project.
B. TEM Analysis 1) HD. The TEM has been effectively introduced and then applied to
& Application the project context. Analysis of the six TEM factors offers valuable
(weight = 30%) insight into the issues critical to the project's success.
2) Distinction. The TEM has been effectively introduced and a strong
effort has been made to apply it to the project context. Analysis
associated with at least one TEM factor is unclear or limited.
3) Credit. A good effort has been made to introduce the TEM.
Further analysis of several factors will show the value gained when
using the TEM as a framework for project planning purposes.
4) Pass. Improvement can be made by clarifying and/or providing
further details when introducing the TEM. Other TEM factors,

3
besides those discussed in the plan, are considered more critical to
the project’s success.
5) Unsatisfactory. Six TEM factors have not been discussed. The
quality of analysis offers no valuable insight that will aid the

2) Distinction. The quality of writing and referencing is very good.
Many of the HD qualities are evident in your work. Improvement
can be gained by ensuring this strong quality is consistent
throughout the work.
3) Credit. Overall, the quality of writing and referencing meets a
good standard. There are some areas where improvement can be
made in regard to vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar, use of
references or referencing style.
4) Pass. Overall, the quality of writing meets a satisfactory standard,
but there are a number of areas where the work is limited.
Thoroughly review the feedback provided and commit more time
to preparing future assignments.
5) Unsatisfactory. The quality of writing and referencing does not
