Unit 2 Cloud Computing

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provides virtualized computing resources over the internet, allowing users to access IT infrastructure without managing physical hardware. Key features include virtualization, scalability, pay-as-you-go pricing, and automated management. Platform as a Service (PaaS) builds on IaaS by offering additional development tools, enabling faster coding and supporting geographically distributed teams.

Infrastrcuture as a Service (IaS)

Architecture of an Infrastrcuture as a Service (IaS)

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is a cloud computing model that provides virtualized
computing resources over the internet. It offers businesses and individuals access to
fundamental IT infrastructure components such as virtual machines, storage,
networking, and operating systems without requiring physical hardware management.

Key Features of IaaS:

1.Virtualization – Provides virtual machines (VMs), storage, and networking on

demand.
2.Scalability – Users can scale resources up or down based on their needs.
3.Pay-as-you-go Pricing – Users only pay for the resources they consume.
4.Automated Management – Cloud providers handle infrastructure maintenance,
updates, and backups.
5.Security – Offers built-in security features, including firewalls and encryption.
6.Multi-Tenant Architecture – Supports multiple users on the same physical
infrastructure.

Use Cases of IaS:

•Hosting Websites & Applications – Deploying and running websites or SaaS

applications.
•Big Data Processing – Storing and analyzing large datasets.
•Development & Testing – Creating and testing applications in virtual environments.
•Disaster Recovery & Backup – Ensuring data protection through cloud-based backup
systems.
Platform as a Service (PaS)
What is Platform as a Service (PaS)?

Platform as a service, or PaaS, is a category of cloud

computing that allows developers to use deployment
platforms to build, deploy, and scale their applications.
When a developer uses PaaS, all they have to consider is
their code. With PaaS, the cloud provider provides all the
backend infrastructure, including networking, middleware,
servers, storage, virtualization, the OS, and the runtime
environments.
Advantages of PaaS
By delivering infrastructure as a service, PaaS offers the same advantages as IaaS. But its
additional features—middleware, development tools, and other business tools—give you more
advantages:

Cut coding time. PaaS development tools can cut the time it takes to code new apps with pre-
coded application components built into the platform, such as workflow, directory services,
security features, search, and so on.
Add development capabilities without adding staff. Platform as a Service components can
give your development team new capabilities without your needing to add staff having the
required skills.
Develop for multiple platforms—including mobile—more easily. Some service providers
give you development options for multiple platforms, such as computers, mobile devices, and
browsers making cross-platform apps quicker and easier to develop.
Use sophisticated tools affordably. A pay-as-you-go model makes it possible for individuals
or organizations to use sophisticated development software and business intelligence and
analytics tools that they could not afford to purchase outright.
Support geographically distributed development teams. Because the development
environment is accessed over the Internet, development teams can work together on projects
even when team members are in remote locations.
Efficiently manage the application lifecycle. PaaS provides all of the capabilities that you
need to support the complete web application lifecycle: building, testing, deploying, managing,
and updating within the same integrated environment.
