Worksheet On Light-1

The document is a worksheet on the reflection of light, covering definitions, laws, and concepts related to spherical mirrors. It includes numerical problems and ray diagram tasks for image formation by concave and convex mirrors. Additionally, it explores the differences between real and virtual images and provides experimental data for calculating focal lengths.

Worksheet on Reflection of Light

1. What is meant by the reflection of light?

2. State the laws of reflection of light.
3. What is a spherical mirror?
4. Distinguish between real and virtual image?
5. What do you know about the terms given below related to the spherical mirrors?
a) Pole b) Centre of curvature c) Focus
d) Radius of curvature e) Focal length f) Principal axis
g) Object distance h) Image distance i) Magnification

Numericals:
6. An object O is placed 30 cm in front of a concave mirror of focal length 10 cm.
How far from the mirror is the image formed?
7. A concave mirror has a focal length of 20 cm. An object is placed 30 cm in front
of the mirror. How far from the mirror will the image be formed?
8. Use a ray diagram to show the formation of a real image by a concave mirror.
9. Copy and complete in your answer-book the following diagram to show how a
concave mirror forms an image of an object O, which is placed outside the focus
F of the mirror.

10. Describe the image that is formed in a concave mirror when an

object is placed inside the focus.
11. Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of an image in a convex mirror.

12. A concave mirror can produce a real or a virtual image, depending on the
position of the object.
Give one difference between a real image and a virtual image.
13. A student carried out an experiment to measure the focal length of a concave
mirror.
The student placed an object at different positions in front of the mirror so that
a real image was formed in each case.
The table shows the measurements recorded by the student for the object
distance u and the image distance v.

u/cm 20 30 40 50
v/cm 64 43 41 35

Using the formula or otherwise and the above data, find an average
value for the focal length f of the mirror.

14. Draw the ray diagrams for the formation of image by a concave mirror and write
the properties of the image formed.
a. When the object at infinity.
b. When the object is beyond ‘C’.
c. When the object is at ‘C’
15. Draw the ray diagrams for the formation of image by a convex mirror and
write the properties of the image formed, When the object is between pole and
infinity.

16. Find the number of images formed when two mirrors are inclined at each
other in following cases:
(i) 70˚
(ii) 30˚
(iii) 60˚
(iv) 90˚
(v) 120˚
