□ Disconnect signal slipring cables. D-shell connectors on signal slipring cables may
have to be disassembled to get through hole in rotor on older rotor castings.
□ Pull all slipring cables to backside of the rotor.
Dial Indicator SetUp
Place two dial indicators on back face of rotor to monitor tilt and twist of the rotor.
□ One on left and one on right. Set indicators to "zero" and do not touch.
□ Place one dial indicator on top of rotor to monitor vertical motion of the rotor. Set
indicator to "zero" and do not touch.
Determine Type of Rotor on System
Rotor type may be: Standard, Common, or Universal.
Choose front rotor support assembly to use based on rotor type. Same rear rotor
□ support assembly is used for all three rotor types. Standard rotor and Common rotor use
same front support assemblies. Universal rotor uses a different front support assembly.
Check that all four support assemblies are not loose. If any of the four are loose then
□ the rotor load is not evenly distributed and the assemblies should be loosened and re-
tightened more carefully.

Pull bearing and slipring away from the rotor and stator. May have to use jacking
□ method. Jog the couch up and down slightly and adjust the tilt adjustment screws on
the H-bracket until bearing can be freely pulled out. The bearing will likely shift down
when pulled away and the slipring could be damaged on the rotor.
□ Adjust couch height before pulling slipring through rotor.
□ Pull slipring through rotor and position as far back from rotor as possible. Guide
slipring cables through rotor so no damage is done to waveguides
□ Remove slipring from bearing.
□ If Bearing Replacement, Remove bearing from tool

6) Rotate the rotor until the X-ray tube is in the 12 o’clock position. Lock the motor brake
and insert the rotor locking pin. The rotor will remain in this orientation until the main
bearing or slip ring has been replaced.
7) Remove the DMS from the rotor. Use the DMS Service Kit to support the DMS during
removal. Reference DMS Repair & Replacement manual for removing this component.
Be sure that all disconnected cables are bundled, labeled, and secured to the rotor
8) Remove components and cables mounted on the inside area of rotor that are in the path
of removing the bearing. Mark each component and its corresponding location on the
rotor. Label all cable ends and secure away from the bearing path. Place a reference
mark on the rotor and remove the 2 laser assemblies on the bearing. Remove the
power supply under the FRC assembly, if installed. Remove the R2D assembly
including its mounting plate. Also, remove counterweights on the inside of the rotor in
stations under the FRC, heat exchanger, or opposite the generator modules. The white
cable tie holders on the upper inside rotor faces also need to be removed.
Figure 15 Figure 16
9) The DMC and DMP have to be removed to have access to clearance holes thru the
bottom of the rotor for the lift screws. The remaining brackets and counterweights
mounted to the bell of the rotor do NOT need to be removed. Disconnect the
remaining cables from the DMP and DMC modules at the base of the rotor. Label
the cable bundles and secure against the cable brackets. Loosen the board clamps
at the front of each module and compress the lower retainer latch to remove each
module. Place the DMC and DMP modules into a static bag to protect them from any
accidental static discharge damage.
CAUTION: When removing the DMC, DMP and DMS a Static Grounding Strap must be
worn to prevent electrical damage to the DMC, DMP and DMS. . (Figures 17-18)

10) REMOVE RESOLVER: Make sure Resolver wires are secured. (not dangling)
Remove Resolver Covers. Prepare a pad in which to rest the Resolver on. Wire
windings on the Resolver are very delicate and special care must be taken not to
damage them.
Remove the outside Resolver ring first, and position on pad. Remove inside ring and
position the inside ring with the outside ring. (Figures 21-23)
11) To prevent the Rotor from moving in any direction when the bearing is removed, the
Rotor must be locked into a stationary position, this done by securing the top and
bottom of the rotor to the stator with metal brackets. (Using lift screw assemblies on
the bottom of the rotor to support the rotor weight.)
Upper bracket (4535 670 08251), position and bolt into place using (3) 1/2-13 x 1.25
hex bolts on the top. Bottom bracket (4535 670 08241), position and bolt into place
using (3) 1/4 –20 x 1” hex bolt with ¼” flat washers. Use (4) ‘C’-clamps to lock rotor to
stator. Two clamps to secure the top of the rotor and (2) clamps to secure the bottom of
the rotor. When clamping the top and bottom brackets tight to the Stator, leave the
mounting bolts loose. There will be gaps between the bracket and rotor, and the bracket
and the stator. Depending on were the gaps are located, Measure the gaps with feeler-
gauges and make shims to fill the gaps. This is to ensure the rotor does not shifted or
pull out of position and remains within allowed amount of movement (.050). (Figure 16)
12) After installing shim spacers, (if needed), tighten bolts and secure clamps.
Check that rotor does not shift or move. If the rotor moves, damage may be done to
the wave- guides. Readjust shims until there is no rotor movement.

will need be disassembled. (Figure 40)
(The connectors will not fit through the Rotor access holes on earlier rotors)
7) BEARING REMOVAL
Begin removing Rotor bearing fasteners (outer race) .
Monitor the dial indicator readings during fastener loosening and removal. If there is too
much movement in the dial indicator reading, reattach the bearing and adjust the shims
in the weldment brackets.
8) Once the Rotor bearing fasteners have been removed, loosen and remove Stator
bearing fasteners. Continue to monitor the dial indicators for excessive movement.

9) Carefully pull the bearing and slip ring out away from rotor and stator. The rotor may shift
up once the bearing separates from the stator (jog the couch up or down to loosen the
bearing if the bearing appears to be binding to the rotor or stator). Once the bearing/slip
ring is free, the slip ring will be very close to or resting on the casting. The height will
have to be readjusted otherwise the slip ring could be damaged.
