bit would be too much pressure on the bit.

2. To sharpen an electrician’s knife, you would use carborumdum stone.

3. The decimal equivalent of 3/16 is 0.1875”.

4. A fuse on a 20 A branch circuit has blown. The fuse is replaced with a 20 A

fuse and the fuse blows when the switch is turned on. The electrician should
check the circuit for a problem.

5. A fusestat is different than the ordinary plug fuse because a fusestat has
different size threads.

6. The total of the following numbers 8 5/8”, 6 ¼”, 7 3/16” and 5 ¼” is 27

5/16”.

7. Article 250 of the NEC refers to grounding.

8. A 3-ohm, a 6-ohm, a 9-ohm, and 12-ohm resistor are connected in series.

The resistor that will consume the most power is the 12-ohm.

9. Stranded wire should be twisted together tightly before being place

under a screw head.

10. Before using rubber gloves when working on high voltage equipment the
gloves should be tested to withstand the high voltage.

11. When conduit or tubing nipples having a maximum length not exceed
24” are installed between boxes they shall be permitted to be filled 60% of
its total cross-sectional area.

12. Service drop conductors not in excess of 600 V shall have a minimum
clearance of 15 feet over residential property and driveways, and those
commercial areas not subject to truck traffic.

13. In order to prevent a safety hazard an electrician should never strike a

hardened steel surface with a hardened steel hammer.

14. To determine if the raceway is truly vertical an electrician would use a

level.

without accessories, shall be permitted to be supported by outlet boxes
identified for such use.

19. A 3-ohm, a 6-ohm, a 9-ohm, and 12-ohm resistor are connected in

parallel. Which resistor will consume the most power? 3-ohm.

20. Which of the following is the most important factor contributing to an

electrician’s safety on the job? Be alert at all times.

21. A one-quarter bend in a raceway is equivalent to an angle of 90

degrees.

23. Saber saw is the best type of saw to use to cut a 3” diameter hole
through ½” plywood.

24. Galvanized conduit has finish exterior and interior of zinc.

25. Conductors shall be not be installed in locations where the operating

temperature will exceed that specified for the type of insulation used.

26. Voltage drop in a wire is a percentage of the applied voltage.

27. Electrical equipment shall be installed according to the local code

when more stringent than the N.E.C.

28. Is it permissible to install DC and AC and conductors in the same outlet

box? Yes, if insulated for the maximum voltage of any conductor.

29. A fixture that weighs more than 50 pounds shall be supported

independently of the outlet box.

30. To cut rigid conduit you should use hack saw and ream the ends.
31. A chain wrench can be used with one hand after the chain is around
the conduit, in confined places and close to walls, and for all sizes of
conduit.

32. If you need to know the provisions for the installation of stationary
storage batteries, you would refer to article 480 of the code.

33. The service conductors between the terminals of the service equipment
and a point usually outside the building, clear of building walls, where joined
by tap or splice to the service drop is called the service-entrance
conductors.

34. An overcurrent protective device with a circuit opening fusible part of

that is heated and severed by the passage of overcurrent through it is called
a fuse.

35. Tungsten-filament lamps can be used on AC and DC circuits.

36. Insulated nonmetallic boxes are made of polyvinyl chloride and

bakelite.

37. It shall be permissible to apply a demand factor of 75% to the

nameplate-rating load of four or more appliances fastened in place served by
the same feeder in a dwelling.

38. On a delta three-phase, 4-wire secondary, how many hot wires may use
the common neutral? 2.

39. The location of a wall receptacle outlet in the bathroom of a dwelling

shall be installed within 36” of outside edge of basin.
