The JoSAA Counselling Process involves the following
stages:
1. Online registration & choice filling
● Prepayment of Seat acceptance fee & documents Pre upload - Both Optional (New in
2025)
2. Saving & Locking of choices
3. Online Seat Allotment -
a. choice(Freeze,slide,float)
b . Documents upload
c. Seat acceptance fee - During the 1st round of seat allotment*

4. Partial admission fee - At the end of 6th round


5. Personal reporting to the allotted institutes for final admission

Stage 1: Online registration and Choice filling
● JoSAA registration and choice filling starts on 3rd June, 5pm and ends on 12th June,

● There is no need to pay any fees during registration & choice filling.

● The student must select only those academic programs in the choices which he/she

is willing to join and prioritize them in order of preference of course/institute.


1. For registration- Go to official JoSAA website and click on Registration and
choice filling (following screen will appear)

2. Carefully read the instruction in the right hand column and fill in the details in
the left and click ‘LOGIN’
3. OTP will be sent to your registered mail and mobile number(JEE).
Enter the OTP and click ‘SUBMIT”
4. Once you submit the OTP, a new page will open. Fill in the details and click the
declaration section.

5. Cross check the details filled and Click ‘Confirm registration’.

6. Your registration will be successful and following page will open.
Go to ‘choice filling’ in Available services at left hand side for choice filling.

7. OTP will be sent to your registered mail and number(JEE).
Fill the OTP and click ‘SUBMIT’

8. In the following page, choose your Institute types, Institutes and Programs.

9. Scroll down and fill your choices by clicking ‘ADD’ in left side based on your preference. The added
options will be visible in right hand side where you can rearrange your options ‘UP’ and ‘DOWN’ or
remove it.

10. Click on save the changes after adding the institutes.
If not the the changes will not be saved.

10. Once choices are filled, it can be managed, rearranged, interchanged and
can be deleted by using the menus available (marked in red)

QUESTION 1
Suppose you have added the choices but
forgot to save then what will happen?

A) It will be deleted
B) It will be on hold
C) It will be saved automatically
D) It can not be added again
Stage 2: Saving & Locking of choices
1. After adding preferred institutes and courses, save the changes added.

2. Students can Lock the choices on the last date of choice filling i.e. 12th June but it is
not mandatory as it will be automatically locked after 12th June, 5pm.

3. Once locked, the choices filled by a student cannot be edited after deadline

4. Students will NOT be allowed to edit their choice list after the deadline for choice
filling.

NOTE: To edit choices after locking but before the deadline, students must
request an unlock on the JoSAA portal. An OTP will be sent to their registered
mobile and email for validation. Once validated, choices will be unlocked.
QUESTION 2
I saved my choices but forgot to Lock my
choices, and the registration date has ended,
now what can I do?

A) Reach out JoSAA Support


B) It will be automatically locked
C) I can’t continue the counseling
Stage 3: Online Seat Allotment

If the student is allocated a seat, following steps are required to be carried out:

Step 1: Accept the Seat and opt for any one of the options.

a. Freeze: This choice indicates fixing the college and course given and removes you
from further rounds.

b. Slide: Selecting "Slide" means the student accepts the offered seat but want to
upgrade the branch within the same Institute in future rounds

c. Float: Selecting "Float" means the student accepts the offered seat. But want to get
different institute and branch.
Stage 3: Online Seat Allotment
Step 2: Upload the documents

List of documents to be uploaded:


1. Class X Mark Sheet/Certificate or Aadhaar Card or Birth Certificate (for Date of Birth)
2. Class XII Marksheet and Certificate (Qualifying Examination)
3. Admit card of JEE (Main) 2025
4. Certificate of category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS), (as per Government of India format,
available on the JoSAA 2025 website, issued by the competent authority).

a) In case of OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS category, the certificate must be either a) issued on or


after April 01, 2025, OR
b) a Government issued, online verifiable certificate which must be valid till August 31,
2025 or the day of physical reporting at the admitting institute, whichever is later.
Stage 3: Online Seat Allotment

Step 2: Upload the documents

5. Original Certificate for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD)
6. Crossed Bank Cheque copy / Image of Passbook with bank account details
8. Medical Certificate (in specified Format available on JoSAA 2025 format,
Annexure 7)
9. OCI certificate/ PIO card, if applicable
10. Passport/Citizenship certificate, if applicable

In addition to the above documents, the verifying officials will also check the special eligibility
conditions if any, for all the choices including and above the seat allotted to the student.
Stage 3: Online Seat Allotment
Step 3: Pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (Important)

● To continue with the JoSAA process and secure a seat, student must pay the seat
acceptance fee.
● General/OBC: Rs. 30,000
● SC/ST/PwD: Rs. 15,000

● Without payment, uploaded documents cannot be verified.


● Payment is required only when a seat is first allotted.

● Non-payment results in rejection of the offered seat and disqualification from


subsequent rounds.

● Note: This includes Rs. 5,000 JoSAA processing charges. The seat acceptance fee,
excluding JoSAA processing charges of Rs. 5000, will be adjusted against the
admission fee.

Stage 3: Online Seat Allotment

Step 4: Respond to queries (if any)

● During document verification, student must respond to queries raised by the


officer online within the given time(through student portal).

● Failure to do so may result in seat cancellation and exclusion from the JoSAA
process.

● It's the student's responsibility to check and respond to queries on the online
portal promptly.

NOTE:

1. If 4 steps are not done when seat allotted for 1st time - will be Exited from JOSAA.

2. Once completed the 3 steps during 1st seat allotment -


a. Got a better seat as per choice filling in next round - then earlier seat is
Cancelled
b. Didn’t Got a better seat as per choice filling in next round - then earlier seat is
Retained
3. Students can switch between float and slide/freeze except in the final round of
seat allocation.
4. Once a student selects freeze for a seat, it's final and cannot be changed. No
exceptions are allowed, and inquiries won't be entertained.
Final Provisional seat allotment - Steps to verify and complete by students

1. Provisional Allotment: After document check and eligibility, students get a


downloadable seat allotment letter.

2. Accepting the Seat: Students accept the seat provisionally—final only after
certificate check, joining the college, and paying pending fees.

3. Rejecting the Seat: If students skip online reporting or don’t pay the seat
acceptance fee, the seat is rejected and they can’t take part in JoSAA anymore
that year.
QUESTION 4
Is it mandatory to pay seat acceptance fee
during 1st round of seat allotment?

A) Yes
B) No, can pay it in later rounds when we get the
interested seat.
C) It’s optional and can pay at the end of 6th
round
Stage 4: Partial Admission Fee (PAF) for NIT+ system only

● At the end of 6th round of JoSAA, all students who are allotted seat and have paid
seat acceptance fees are also required to pay the Partial Admission Fees.

● Date and time: July 23rd - 27th, by 5pm.

● Amount:
○ GEN/OBC/GEN-EWS: Rs. 45,000
○ SC/ST/PwD: Rs. 20,000
Stage 5: Personal reporting to the allotted institutes
for final admission
● After getting allocated and accepting a seat, students need to go to the
admitting institute.

● There, they'll finish all admission paperwork, pay fees, confirm their
admission, and start classes.

● The institute will double-check all certificates during this process.


Withdrawal option
1. IIT Seat Withdrawal:
● Can withdraw online from 2nd round until second last round.
● Cannot withdraw after the last round starts.

2. NIT+ System Withdrawal:


● Can withdraw online until the final round.

3. Consequences of Withdrawal:
● Seat given to another candidate in next round.
● Student no longer considered for future allocations.
● Acceptance fee refunded after processing charges- 5000/-
● Loses chance to join any institute through JoSAA.

4. Special Rounds for NITs:


● Not offered through JoSAA.
● Apply at CSAB for special rounds.
Exit option from seat allocation process

● If a student hasn't secured a seat through JoSAA, they can opt out of the
allocation process from the 2nd round until the second last round on the JoSAA
portal.

● This makes them ineligible for admission through JoSAA. However, for IITs,
opting out isn't allowed after 4th round.

IIT Preparatory Course Details

● In JEE Advanced, there’s something called a Preparatory Rank. It means you can
join a 1-year preparatory course at one of the 4 IITs. After that year, you take an
exam, and if you pass, you get the same branch and IIT based on your rank.

● If you are getting a seat in a top NIT and also eligible for a prep course, it’s usually
better to choose the NIT option.

2. You will see a list of colleges you are eligible for.

3. This is not your preference list—just the colleges you can get based on your rank.

4. To get the preference order, type 1 in the Rank box and press Enter.

5. You’ll then see the list of colleges in priority order. Use this for your choice filling.

6. You can also search for your preferred course using the search tab.

Points to remember:

1. Keep all documents ready before the counseling starts


2. Arrange and keep money prior for seat acceptance fee
3. Refer to top colleges list and use Avanti fellows college predictor
and make you own list prior
4. Don’t forget the 4 steps mentioned previously which should be done
right after your first round of seat allotment else seat will be
cancelled.
5. Always keep on log in to the Josaa portal for any queries raised.
6. Be in touch with any teacher and ask them any no of doubts even if it
is a small doubt.
