Simplest form of a fraction

That satisfied when the only common factor of the numerator and
denominator is 1

How can you simplify fraction to simplest form ?

To simplify a fraction to simplest form divide both of numerator and
denominator by their greatest common factor (G.C.F)
Example 2 Write each of the following fractions in the simplest form.
𝟐𝟒
a.
𝟑𝟐
Solution

a. First step : Factorize the two numbers 24 and 32

32
24
4 8
4 6
2 2 2 4

2 2 2 3
2 2

b. Second step : Find the G.C.F for the two numbers 24 and 32
24 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3
32 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2
G.C.F = 2 x 2 x 2 = 8
c. Third step : Divide the numerator and denominator by their G.C.F

Learn How to find like denominators for two fractions
You can change the two unlike denominator fractions into two like
denominator fractions by replacing one of them or both by equivalent
fractions of denominator equal the L.C.M of the two denominators.
𝟑 𝟓
For Example : and are two unlike denominator fractions.
𝟖 𝟏𝟐

To change them into two like denominator fractions, you will do as follows.
a. First step : Factorize the two numbers 8 and 12
8 12

2 4 3 4

2 2 2 2

b. Second step : Find the L.C.M for the two numbers 8 and 12
8 = 2 x 2 x 2
12 = 2 x 2 x 3
L.C.M = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 24
c. Third step : Change the two denominators into 24 which is the L.C.M for 8
and 12

Learn Adding and subtracting unlike denominator
fractions
1- To add or subtract fractions of unlike denominators, first you must write
the fractions with like denominator.
2- We take the L.C.M of the two denominator as like denominator of the
two fractions.
𝟑 𝟒
Problem Find a. +

Solution

a. First step : Find the L.C.M of the two denominators 10 and 15

10 15

2 5 3 5

10 = 2 x 5 x 2
15 = 5 x 3
L.C.M = 2 x 5 x 3 = 30
b. Second step : Change the two denominators into 30

Learn Adding and subtracting mixed numbers

with like denominators

Remember how to change from one form to another

➢ To change a mixed number into an ➢ To change an improper fraction into a

improper fraction, you can multiply mixed number, you can divide.
then add as shown. 𝟗
means “9 ÷ 4”

2 number of wholes
+ 𝟏 𝟗 [4 x 2] + 1 4 9
2 =
𝟒 𝟒 Denominator stays - 8
x 1 number of fourths
𝟗 the same
So, 𝟐𝟏𝟒 = 9 ÷ 4 = 2 R 1 So,
𝟗

To add / subtract two mixed numbers with like denominators, you can use
one of these strategies :

1- Adding subtracting using improper fractions :

a- Rewrite each mixed number as an improper fraction.
b- Add / Subtract the numerators.
For Example :
𝟑
➢ 𝟐𝟓
̅ + 𝟑 𝟓̅
𝟏
➢ 𝟕 𝟏𝟒̅ - 𝟓 𝟑𝟒̅

2- If the denominators are different :
Find the LCD and change the fractions to show the same denominator.
Then add the numerators and keep the denominator. Next, add the whole
numbers. Reduce or rename if necessary.

➢ 𝟔 𝟏𝟐̅ + 𝟐 𝟑𝟒̅ = (rewrite vertically)

The relation between two lines : A

C
1- Parallel lines :
They never cross and they keep the same distance apart. B

You can say that 𝐀𝐁 ⃡
is parallel to 𝐂𝐃 D
2- Intersecting lines :
They pass through the same point.
You can say that ⃡𝐄𝐅 is parallel to ⃡𝐆𝐇
3- Perpendicular lines :
They are intersecting lines that form four square corners
You can say that ⃡𝐎𝐏 is parallel to ⃡𝐍𝐋

This symbol means that this is a square corner

to tell you that these lines are perpendicular

7
The kinds of angles are:
1- Right angle :
Its measure is exactly 𝟗𝟎°

2- Acute angle :
Its measure is between 𝟎° and 𝟗𝟎°

3- Obtuse angle :
Its measure is between 𝟗𝟎° and 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

4- Straight angle :
Its measure is exactly 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

For Exmple :
4 cm 3 cm
Find volume of the rectangular prism “length” “width”
Volume Volume
➢ Length = 4 cm, width = 3 cm ➢ Base Area = length x width
and height = 2 cm = 4 x 3 = 12 cm3

➢ Length x Width x Height ➢ Base Area x Height
