Schumacher Elevator Company • One Schumacher Way • Denver, IA 50622 (800) 779-5438
WARNINGS AND DISCLAIMER
All elevator products sold by Schumacher Elevator Co. are designed and manufactured in accordance with ASME
A17.1, National Electric Code, and CSA B44.1/ASME A17.5. All elevator products sold by Schumacher Elevator Co.
must be installed, serviced and maintained and/or operated by a skilled elevator technician. All elevator products
sold by Schumacher Elevator Co. must be installed in accordance with the requirements of the ASME A17.1 code
and must be installed in a safe manner in compliance with all local code. The elevator equipment is capable of
being supplied with a circuit able to deliver not more than 10,000 amps. The incoming three-phase (optional
single-phase) power must be supplied by a fused disconnect or circuit braker sized in conformance with applicable
local, state, or national code. A dedicated 120V lighting circuit must be supplied to the machine room with
disconnect in machine room. Equipment grounding must be in accordance with NEC article 250 or applicable local
electrical code. All elevator systems must be installed by qualified, licensed, trained elevator personnel familiar
with the operation of the equipment.

MOTOR WIRING INSTRUCTIONS

Follow the below instruction to ensure motor wiring from the starter to the motor do not cause system issues:
1) Controller should be grounded from the incoming power as stated above, a direct ground shall be
provided to the machine room to properly ground the motor and controller.
2) Keep incoming power and motor leads short and away from lower voltage field wiring.

• Verify safety devices are fully functional before operating the elevator. DO NOT operate controls with any safety
devices inoperative.
• Remain clear of all moving/rotating equipment when working on controller. ALWAYS remove power to
equipment before replacing components on the controller. Damage or unexpected operation of the control
system is possible is power is not removed.
• Use precaution when use test jumpers to prevent disabling safety devices or electrical hazard by shorting high
voltage or damaging components.
• Always close elevator control cabinet door/cover when done working on equipment, this prevents dust/debris
buildup.

PRECAUTIONS

TERMINATING WIRES: Caution must be taken when terminating wires at any point in the elevator equipment.
Stranded wire that is not fully inserted or partially hanging outside the clamp may prevent proper operation of
safety device.
WIRING LAYOUT: Electrical noise can cause improper operation of equipment. Prevent electrical noise on
conductors running low-voltage signal wires in separate conduit from high-power wires. If running in separate
conduit/duct is unavoidable, separate wires by at least 4 inches and cross at 90 degrees. Shielded cables may be
used for low-voltage signal wires and required for all communication signals. Cable shielding needs to be
grounded at one side only.

EMERGENCY POWER To be classified able to run on Emergency Power, the power system must be capable of
OPERATION operating the elevator at rated load. If group of elevators are powered by a single
emergency power system, it must be capable of operating all elevators with rated load
simultaneously. If unable to operate all elevators simultaneously, a keyed manual transfer
switch must be provided to select elevator(s) for operation (switch SBS-EPSA/EPSB). Once

EP). (ASME A17.1-2019 §2.27.2 and NFPA 70 Art. 517) (PI DISPLAY= E P)
BATTERY LOWERING If equipped with a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), the elevator can prevent
OPERATION entrapment if a power failure occurs with occupants inside the elevator. When power
failure occurs, the NP relays turns OFF allowing the UPS to power the control system. If

open when the disconnect is turned OFF. Terminate wires on D and DD (contact rating 6A @

CONTROL SYSTEM
200VAC).

BREAKDOWN
(ASME A17.1-2019 §3.26.10)
RESYNC OPERATION If elevator has been designed with two-jack hole less, or
telescoping jack, a resynchronization (Recycling) operation
should be performed daily. The procedure is done
automatically by the controller at a preset time (RSNC). At the
preset time of day, the elevator will wait for the elevator to be

OPERATION
DESC. OF
idle for at least 30s. After the wait time, the elevator will
travel to the lowest landing, stop, continue at leveling speed
into the buffer and continue with a slow speed down
command for 40s. Once complete the elevator will level into
the first landing and return to Normal Operation.

GETTING STARTED
(ASME A17.1-2019 §3.26.7)
DOOR HOLD OPEN When DHO=ON and at a floor, the car door will open and remain open for designated
amount of time set in “DHOT” preset. If DHOT=0.000, “DHO” is intended to be a switch. A
timer value is meant to be used with a push button. Door Hold Open time can be cancelled
by pressing door close button (CPX). (PI DISPLAY= D H)
When Nudging function is enabled, TNR > 0.000 and NR=1, if doors have been open for

LANDING SYSTEM
NUDGING OPERATION
longer than TNR Nudging is initiated. The Nudging function closes the door at reduced
speed and ignores “EE” and “EER” input. Nudging is also used on Fire Service Recall and
PHASE 2 operation. (PI DISPLAY= N D)
OVERLOAD PRESSURE When equipped with an overload pressure switch, the jack pressure is monitored and when
SENSING above the set pressure, the switch turns ON the overload input (LW=ON). The input is only

CONNECTING TO
monitored while the car doors is open since pressure increases as pump begins to run.
(PI DISPLAY= O L)

WI-FI
OUT OF SERVICE If a fault is detected or a safety device is not operating correctly, the elevator will not
operate and FAULT=ON. Find fault description, remedy, and reset requirements in the

Once the Landing System is installed from the previous section, the landing system must calculate the
offset value, so the controller knows where the bottom landing is. CEDES manufactures the coded tape
in a continuous spool and cuts the necessary length for each individual spool. The spool received for
each job may be somewhere in the middle of the tape. The offset adjusts the position read by the CEDES
OPERATION
DESC. OF

unit so that 1st landing is equal to 500mm. NOTE-Adjusting this offset will affect every floor by shifting
the position of each landing by the difference of the previous offset calculation.

SLOWDOWN VALUES

Slowdown distance is the distance away from the floor the controller turns off high speed relay. The
slowdown distance should be adjusted based on several parameters. Higher elevator speeds require

ADJUSTMENTS
increased slow down distance, type of hydraulic valve may increase or decrease the necessary

APS
slowdown distance, and finally it is up to the installer to provide a more gradual or abrupt S-Curve from
the valve which determines the overall slowdown distance. Non-Feedback hydraulic valves (Maxton,
Blain, EECO) should have an extra 2-6” of stabilized leveling to account for slowdown changes based on
temperature. DOWN SLOWDOWN distance on non-feedback valves (Maxton, Blain, EECO) should be

ADJUST VALVE
adjusted when fully loaded to account for increased speed when loaded.

STOP VALUE

STOP value is the distance away from the floor the directional relay turns off (U or D). Every valve has
some amount of “drift” when command is removed from the valve from leveling speed. The stop value
LANDING SYSTEM

allows you to fine tune this distance in each direction separate from Dead Zone distance.

DEAD ZONE VALUE

Dead Zone value is the distance away from the floor allowed before a re-level is initiated. The DEAD
CONNECTING TO

ZONE value must be greater than the STOP value. If the drift from the valve at stop is greater than
WI-FI

desired dead zone distance, adjustment of the valve is recommended (decrease leveling speed, adjust
stop profile, etc.).

TERMINAL SLOWDOWNS
ADJUSTMENTS

Terminal Slowdowns are used for two functions. The first is to turn OFF the high-speed output (H) when
APS

arriving at a terminal floor. The position the controller determines the terminal slowdown region is
based on the car speed measured through the CEDES APS. Navigate to TERMINAL SLOWDOWNS screen
to view the CALCULATED SLDWN DIST. SPEED is the average top speed in ft/min of each run during high-
ADJUST VALVE

speed. The second is to check the function of the Normal Slowdown. A Terminal Slowdown fault occurs
if the high-speed logic is still active after the elevator reaches the terminal slowdown. (ERROR: 0-40%)

NORMAL LIMITS

The elevator system has two separate systems that prevent the over travel and under travel of the
elevator. The first is mechanical switches in the hoistway actuated by a cam to disable the UP direction if

ADJUSTMENTS
“UNL” has been actuated and DOWN if “DNL” is actuated. The UNL/DNL signals are ON until actuated

APS
with relays and inputs to determine the state of the limits. The second is a “Digital” UNL/DNL that uses
the CEDES APS position with the set values of the Top and Bottom landing to set the directional limit at
38mm past the terminal landings.

ADJUST VALVE
MOTION DETECTION

The elevator system detects motion by comparing the current position (mm) to the previous position
(mm) sent by the APS. The Up/Down motion detection has 0.5s off-delay to allow time for next packet
to be received and acquire a general sense of direction over a longer period.

LOW OIL PROTECTION
Code requires protection from a low oil situation. The code allows either direct oil level monitoring or a pump run
timer. The control system utilizes a pump run timer to prevent running the pump longer than TUP. The TUP time
accumulates once the “U” relay is energized to once it turns OFF.

CONNECTING TO
To test Low Oil Protection:

WI-FI
1. Place car call to 1st landing.
2. Disable STALL fault detection by setting STALL time to “0”.
3. Place a car call to the top landing.
4. Remove the “U” relay to prevent motion in Up direction. The accumulated timer value is displayed on the
PRESETS PAGE 2 screen.

ADJUSTMENTS
5. Once the pump has been running longer than TUP timer, Up direction is stopped and the elevator travels

APS
to the bottom landing. Automatic Doors are still operational, although hall call will not operate doors.
6. Reset Fault and set STALL back to original value.
7. Verify correct elevator operation before returning to NORMAL OPERATION.
