Supply Chain
• A supply chain is a network of activities, organizations,
and resources involved in transforming raw materials into
finished goods and delivering them to customers.
• It encompasses everything from sourcing raw materials
to the final delivery of the product.

Supply Chain Management


•Supply chain management (SCM) represents the
management of the entire Set of production,
manufacturing/transformations, distribution and
Marketing activities which a consumer is supplied with a
desired product.

Supply Chain in Paddy


• Production: Farmers cultivate vegetables,
often on small-scale farms.
•Post-Harvest Handling: After harvest,
vegetables are washed, sorted, graded, and
packaged to maintain freshness and extend
shelf life.
• Transportation and Distribution: Vegetables
are transported from packing facilities to
various locations, including wholesalers,
retailers, and even directly to some
consumers.
• Retail: Vegetables are sold at various retail
outlets, including traditional markets,
supermarkets, and online platforms.
• Consumption: Consumers purchase
vegetables for consumption at home or in
restaurants.

WAREHOUSE
•A warehouse is a large building or commercial space
used for storing goods before they are sold, used, or
shipped.
• It’s a crucial part of supply chains, providing secure
storage, inventory management, and other value-added
services.

Functioning of Warehouse :
1. Storage:
Warehouses provide secure and organized storage for
various goods, including raw materials, finished products,
and equipment.
They offer different storage options, including
temperature-controlled environments, to ensure product
integrity.
2. Receiving and Putaway:
Warehouses receive incoming shipments, verify the
received items, and then store them in designated
locations.
Efficient putaway procedures are crucial to maximize
space utilization and minimize material handling time.
3. Inventory Management:
Warehouses maintain accurate records of inventory
levels, ensuring visibility into stock availability.
Inventory control practices, such as cycle counting and
forecasting demand, help optimize stock levels and
minimize carrying costs.
4. Order Fulfillment:
Warehouses pick, pack, and ship customer orders,
ensuring accurate and timely fulfillment of requests.
This involves retrieving items from storage, preparing
them for shipment, and coordinating with transportation
providers.
5. Material Handling:
Warehouses utilize various material handling equipment,
such as forklifts and conveyors, to efficiently move goods
within the facility.
This includes picking, putaway, and shipment preparation
activities.
6. Quality Control:
Warehouses play a role in maintaining product quality,
ensuring goods are stored under appropriate conditions
and inspected for damage.
This may involve quality checks, sorting, and processing
to meet specific requirements.
7. Transportation Coordination:
Warehouses often serve as hubs for transportation,
facilitating the movement of goods between suppliers,
manufacturers, and customers.This includes coordinating
shipments, managing transportation schedules, and
ensuring timely delivery.
