A. PART ONE: GENERALLY


Course Title: Operations Management – BSAD 475 – 3 Credits
Course Outline:
1. Text book
[1] Heizer, J., Render, B. & Munson, C. (2020). Operations Management: Sustainability
and Supply Chain Management (13th Ed.). Pearson Education, Inc.
2. Course Objective:
- Comprehend problems related to operations management.
- Examine several facets of operations management in the context of an actual business.
- Develop strong collaboration abilities.
- Demonstrate the awareness of the personal and contrasting attitudes, values, and beliefs
that shape global business strategies and business relationships.

3. Course Description
The purpose of this course is to analyze the challenges that operations and production
managers in the manufacturing and service sectors encounter. Operations scheduling,
quality assurance, plant layout, facility location, lean manufacturing, queuing, production
and inventory controls, forecasting, and supply chain management are some of the
concepts and methods covered.

B. PART TWO: RULES & ROLES

I. PROFESSIONAL DISCIPLINE AND CLASS ATTENDANCE


1. Attendance
Students are required to attend minimum 80% of class time.
03 sessions (12 hours): Classes with teacher on Saturday afternoon or evening &
Sunday (morning + afternoon).
2. Punctuality
Students are expected to be punctual during class and other appointments. Tardiness
during an exam is detrimental to the student, because exams will be started, as
scheduled and no extra time will be granted to students who are tardy.
3. Quality of work assigned
The student must ensure that work assigned is well done, with responsibility, effort, and
profoundness. Presentation of assignments should be carefully designed using
appropriate technology where necessary.
II. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
Andrews University’s statement on academic integrity applies for this class. “In
harmony with the mission statement, Andrews University expects that students will
demonstrate the ability to think clearly for themselves and exhibit personal and moral
integrity in every sphere of life. Thus, students are expected to display honesty in all
academic matters”. Cheating will not be tolerated. It includes looking at other students’
work during an exam or a quiz, or copying other people’s work and turning it in as your
own, copy solution from a manual, a test bank, similar responses between two or more
students for an assignment that requires personal analysis, similar response with a
textbook, etc. Andrews University, as a Seventh-day Adventist Institution, expects
students to demonstrate the ability to think clearly and exhibit personal moral integrity
in every sphere of life. Honesty in all academic matters is a vital component of personal
integrity. Breaches in academic integrity principles are taken seriously by the university.
Acts of academic dishonesty as described in the University Bulletin are subject to
incremental disciplinary penalties with redemptive intent. Such acts are tracked in the

office of the Vice President for Academic Administration. Repeated and/or serious
offenses will be referred to the Committee on Academic Integrity for further

III. ASSIGNMENTS AND COURSE REQUIREMENTS

In order to better understand the course, students will be required to complete 03


individual quizzes to assess their mastery of the subject and practice the practical project
in groups.
2. The Grading Scale used will be as follows:

A >94% C+ 70 – 74%

A- 90 - 94% C 65 – 69%

B+ 85 - 89% C- 60 – 64%

B 80 – 84% D 50% - 60%

B- 75 – 79% F <50%

3. Note:
To pass this course the student must achieve a minimum of grade D.
Late submission: Students are deducted 5% of total grade per day after deadline (applied
for final assignments).

IV. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS
Consolidating theoretical notions is required of the students. Whenever possible, in-
class writing, experiments, movies, pictures, and demonstrations may be used. To
encourage debates and other in-class activities, students are expected to study the
chapters ahead of time. Additionally, in order to complete the group assignment,
students must choose a real company case. Finally, to improve learning, web-based
activities are incorporated.

C. PART THREE: TENTATIVE COURSE SCHEDULE


The following program is a tentative schedule. It is flexible and will depend on the time
needed for each concept to be assimilated by the students.

* NOTE: Sessions should be read PRIOR to class meeting. Syllabus is subject to change
due to necessity of class, illness, weather conditions, or a trial
