Example 1.2.14
The position of a child who starts sliding from the top point of a curved slide in
an aqua park at any time t can be expressed in cylindrical coordinates as
r = 0.2t2 -2t +6, q = Sin(5t) + Cos(20t) + 2t, z = -2.3t + 20
It is known that the lowest point of the slide is 2.6m above the pool.
Accordingly,a-) Calculate the speed and acceleration of the child at the 5th
second,b-) calculate how far from the slide the point where the child falls into
the pool will be. z
Solution:
2.6m
r = 0.2t2 -2t +6 q = Sin(5t) + Cos(20t) + 2t z = -2.3t + 20

b-) We will calculate how far away from the slide the point where the child falls into the pool will be.
First of all, we need to find the velocity components of the child at point A at the end of the slide:
Figure 1.2.42

𝑡𝐵1,2 =
2 𝑥 4.905
𝑡𝐵2 = 0.53𝑠 = 𝑡𝐵
𝑥𝐵′ = 𝑥0 + 𝑣𝑥′𝐴 . 𝑡𝐵 = 0 + 8.57𝑥0.53 → 𝑥𝐵′ = 4.54𝑚 (The distance from the slide to the point where
the child fell into the pool)

While two coordinates of a robot arm are changed
with the relations 𝑧 = 0.4𝑡 2 ve 𝜃 = 1.5𝑡
its velocity in the r direction is increased to
0.15m/s
Calculate the total speed and total acceleration of
the end point A, given that r=0.3𝑚 is known at
t=3rd second.
Answer: 𝑣 = 2.45 𝑚/𝑠; 𝑎 = 1.14𝑚/𝑠 2
