Dynamics - Cylindirical Components

The document discusses the kinematics of curvilinear motion using cylindrical coordinates, detailing the equations for position, velocity, and acceleration in three dimensions. An example illustrates the motion of a child sliding down a curved slide, calculating speed and acceleration at a specific time, as well as the distance from the slide to where the child lands in the pool. Additional questions are posed regarding the dynamics of a robot arm and a roller coaster, with provided answers for total speed, acceleration, and components of acceleration.

1.2.6 Examination of curvilinear motion according to Cylindrical Coordinates: (tvid1.2.4 b)

Cylindrical Coordinates: It is the 3-dimensional version of polar coordinates.In

addition to the r, q axes, there is also movement in the z axis. In addition to the
equations in polar coordinates, there are also equations for the velocity (𝑧)ሶ and
acceleration (𝑧)ሷ in the z axis. The position at a time t is expressed with the
coordinates 𝑃(𝑟,𝜃,𝑧).

1.2.6 Kinematics of Particle / Curvilinear Motion / Cylindiral Components

Example 1.2.14
The position of a child who starts sliding from the top point of a curved slide in
an aqua park at any time t can be expressed in cylindrical coordinates as
r = 0.2t2 -2t +6, q = Sin(5t) + Cos(20t) + 2t, z = -2.3t + 20
It is known that the lowest point of the slide is 2.6m above the pool.
Accordingly,a-) Calculate the speed and acceleration of the child at the 5th
second,b-) calculate how far from the slide the point where the child falls into
the pool will be. z

Solution:
2.6m
r = 0.2t2 -2t +6 q = Sin(5t) + Cos(20t) + 2t z = -2.3t + 20

b-) We will calculate how far away from the slide the point where the child falls into the pool will be.
First of all, we need to find the velocity components of the child at point A at the end of the slide:
