PLC and CAN-BUS For Training-1
PLC and CAN-BUS For Training-1
- What is it:
o PLC = Programmable Logic Control: Communication Highway (uses Master and Slave
application. PLC is the head controller handling all signals in the CPU…Associated
terms/phrases include
PROFIBUS = Process Field Bus (Communication highway or distribution system
that takes information to/from the peripheral units/components in bits and/or
word
ASI Bus = (Actuator Sensor Interface) It is for bit processing, attached to units
for that reason. These ASI components are sensed and updated by the ASI Bus
Master modules (Binary stations/interfaces)
DP = Distributed Peripheral System is the distribution system of the PROFI
(Process Field) Bus equipment
ET200S = An interface unit that senses and updates all the signals coming to and
leaving (input/output signals) the modules
“Dual-Port Ram” = Communication method by which the PROFI Bus interface
and CPU communicate (only way), therefore same method/language for
field/peripheral equipment (e.g. ET200S, ASI, Modules, Drive assemblies etc.)
Addresses = Bits and Words formed and are essential to enable individual
stations to be contacted
- Significantly shorter cycle, therefore quicker response to signal changes (work sharing)
- Shorter transmission lines (DP’s can be used directly where signals originate)
- Fault-prone terminal connections eliminated from system
** Signal generators/receivers on ASI Bus are as normal switches, buttons, and valves etc. connected to
ASI modules, these ASI components can be changed quickly and unaffected by external influences
CAN-BUS modules are connected to the Control Computer (CPU) via CAN lines (CAN
high/CAN low twisted pair wire). The values read in by the input modules (e.g. switch,
generator, sensor, etc.) are transmitted via these CAN lines and processed by the on-
board Software in the CPU (Master 4 for Liebherr machines etc.) – the commands of the
CPU are then sent via the same CAN lines to the output modules. There in these output
modules, the commands are converted into electrical signals for the outputs units or
actuators (e.g. valves, contactors, etc.).
** See or follow an example of a signal reading from switch to input module to CPU to output module (a
function path can also be used) **
** Not adjustable, but terminations can read lower resistances and can improve **
