In conclusion we thank our able lecturer in charge for her dedication to ensure that she has equipped us with the appropriate knowledge used to conduct our research. CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION History of the aquarium and fish keeping The earliest evidence of fish farming date back before 100BC in china. The fish intergrade agriculture aquaculture systems emerged in china where they are all implemented today.in Europe it started in ancient day Rome. The first five decades of the 20th century colonist introduced and then formed other species of fish in the Anglo Belgian colonies in Africa. The are many fish species but we shall majorly dwell in tilapia species is one of the most popural species worldwide. BACKROUND INFORMATION 1.1 HISTORY Bukura Agricultural College was established in 1974 as an agricultural institute later gaining status as a diploma college in 1982. Bukura agricultural college has long maintained and a clean record of graduating skilled students in agricultural practices and related areas of study both locally and internationally. 1.2 GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION Bukura Agricultural College is situated along Sigalagala Butere road, it is situated within western region, Lurambi constituency, Butsotso ward ,29 km from Bukura college to Kakamega town. Bukura agricultural college has a longitude 0,13,15 North and latitude 34,36,44 East. the temperature range is 18 to 29 1.3 ECOLOGICAL CONDITION Bukura climate is classified as tropical. In Kakamega there is a lot of rain even in the third month. The climate here is classified as Aft by the Koppel-Geiger system. The temperature here averages 20.8-69.4 F. Kakamega is located close to the equator making the summers difficult to define. The most popular time to visit is February, March and April. 1.4 MANDATE BUKURA AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE The college is currently operating as a state corporation under the ministry of agriculture and irrigation mandate to provide agricultural training through integration and research and extension. 1.5 VISSION AN MISSION STATEMENTS
Vision; Training institution of choice in practical agriculture.
Mission; To provide quality agricultural education through training, research innovation and extension services for improved agricultural productivity and livelihoods. 1.6 CORE VALUES In pursuit of the mission and vision to perform its core function, the college will be guided by the following fundamental valves derived from constitution of Kenya 2010 which will define the culture college. OBJECTIVES 1.7 General Objectives Trancing is the raising specific species of fish in closure or specific tanks. The fish raised on farms are primarily for food; through the objectives of this aspect s of aquaculture include more than increasing the sea food supply. There are employment and economic advantage as well as the possibility of sustaining species that might be over fished if not for the control environment of fish farm or ponds in Bukura agricultural College. 1.8 Specific objectives a. The species reared in Bukura agricultural college ponds are the Tilapia. It is mainly found in BAC due to the type of soil and the ecological condition which favours Tilapias ecology. b. The best method of fish farming in BAC is by use of net, it is mostly used because are mostly harmed. c.The pest that mostly affect the tilapia in BAC ponds are the king fishers and wild cats and some aquatic diseases that mostly affect Tilapia in BAC are streptococcus agalactiaae. 1.9 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM INTRODUCTION OF FISH FARMING IN BUKURA AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE Fish farming in Bukura agricultural college was introduced by the county government of Kakamega as an agricultural institution for the purpose of learning and production purposes. Species of Tilapia were bought as fingerlings and subdivided into various ponds in BAC farm specifically at the model farm after it led to good production due to good condition favouring fish farming and also the mode of feeding. CHALLENGES FACING FISH FARMING AND THEIR SOLUTION Fish farming in BAC as a project is being affected by certain problems like lack of adequate water supply during the dry season in the ponds, limited supply of fingerlings, limited supply of feed. Predators in the pond and diseases like streptococcus agalactiae, in the research proposal made were; ensuring adequate supply of clean water throughout the season, supply of enough fingerlings, provision of enough feed with adequate nutrient to increase productivity for fish and fishpond areas should be cleared to reduce predators. BENEFITS OF FISH FARMING Fish farming is profitable if proper planning and good management is done. Can be made within 6 months, also is a source of food protein, low fat protein rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Has no environmental effect. 1.10 JUSTIFICATION The research will focus on stanching the reproduction habit of tilapia in Bukura area since due to recent ecological changes in the water and temperature of the area produced by human economic activity, the behaviour of these special has been modified thus the species has developed to adapt to the new circumstances of its ecosystem and deepen the theoretical knowledge about accelerated adaption procedures ,in addition to offering comprehensive look at the environmental damage caused by growth ,unsustainable economic helping to raise aware ness of the local population . We therefore propose to investigate the evolution of the theoretical conceptions of class struggle and economic structure throughout the work of fishery farming since we consider that previous analysis have overlooked the fundamentally dynamic and unstable conception of human society that is present. CHAPTER TWO 20 LITERATURE REVIEW, 2,1 OVERVIEW OF FISH PRODUCTION The fish farming has actually been running for thousands of years. The fish cultivation or aquaculture has cultivated from humble beginning into fishing industry today(Juio200) The hieroglyphic and ancient manuscripts provide the proof of aquaculture near about lasts 4000 years in 475Bsc Fan lay (Chinese man)wrote a book called raise fish for food in T733 the modern form of aquaculture established by Germany and successfully gathered fertilized fish eggs .Since then, fish farming has continued to develop in different countries with different techniques and research .Now the fish farming takes place in ponds ,tanks .Recirculating tanks and even in cultivation field(Hal wart and Gupta,2004)for over 2000 years the fish and race cultivation makes tradition in South east Asia according to Joao et al. (2013), Aquaculture has a lot of similarities to agriculture; it is a cultivation of aquatic organisms into a managerial system. Based on the interaction among environment and human being the aquaculture has been category ecological aquaculture, organic aquaculture, monoculture, polyculture and integrated aquaculture, biodiversity and the fish.
2.2 ECOLOGICAL AQUACULTURE
It uses the environments principles as an example of aquatic development costs 2003 and activity such as designing monitors are performed based on the natural and the social environment in which they live. Ecological aquaculture farms are known as integrated aquatic.
