Report – Networking Analysis and Design

Assessment

Task: Please apply critical thinking to apply technologies to propose a


networking plan for the design scenario.

Background: NetSolutions Ltd. Is an IT company that design and implement


network and provides various network solutions and services to its clients. Very
recently you have been hired by this company as a Network Engineer to design a
network for one of its clients COSMOTECH LTD., who recently relocated into a new
premise. COSMOTECH LTD. is a small business dealing with tutoring and coaching
VCE students with 14 full-time employees. You have done a thorough physical
inspection of the premises. The overall system requirements, data and information,
security requirements are explained by the company. Based on these requirements
as an ‘Network Engineer’ your job is to investigate a network infrastructure which can
meet the business requirements of the company highlighting different design aspects
for this proposed network and prepare a comprehensive report on your
findings/recommendations along with appropriate rationales to do so.

Following are the list of tasks that you need to accomplish highlighting the detailed
arguments in favour of them including pros and cons, different alternatives, selection
criteria (why you have selected it ahead of others), etc.

Task A – Infrastructure and Protocols to be Used in the Network
1. A structured cabling is an entire architecture of cabling and conjoined
hardware which afford an exhaustive telecommunications structure. What are
the components of structured cabling you are going to use in this design?

2. The four basic network topology designs are Bus, Star, Ring and Mesh.
Which topology you are using for this network? What are the rationale behind
your selection? Please make a comprehensive analysis on comparison of the
topologies and highlight your arguments in support of your selection.

3. A protocol is an intermediation within the computers in the interaction between


each other file transmission and processing. What are the protocols will be
used? Explain each of them briefly.

4. Wi-Fi term stands for wireless reliability. Wireless works using radio
frequencies on sending signals between devices. The accepting and sending
data in Wi-Fi are in Gigahertz range. Here hertz term explains about the unit
of frequency. The broadcasting equipment for Wi-Fi is routers and access
point on which laptops, mobiles, tablets and so are connected. List some of
the components of a Wi-Fi system and explain each of them briefly.

5. What is Wi-Fi standard? List and explain some of them. Compare the
advantages and disadvantages of Wireless network?

Task B – Addressing of the Network


1. Post-man needs address to deliver letter, devices in a network also needs
address. Without address a device in a network could not be able to
communicate the other one in the presence of internet. This is why, devices
on a network need address to send and receive data. What is the addressing
system you will use in this proposed network. Briefly explain how each of
them works along with necessary diagrams.

2. What is routing and how it would facilitate your proposed network?

Task C – Network Security


1. What is Network Security? What is the guiding model in information security?
Explain the model briefly in relation with your network design in hand along
with necessary diagrams and figures.

2. What are the security measures/controls you are considering making this
proposed network resilient? List the name of the controls and measures and
explain in detail how they are contributing to make the network robust and
resilient.

3. Internet connection always involves a significant amount of risk to the


company network. What are the vulnerabilities your proposed network may
have and what are the approaches should be employed to mitigate these
vulnerabilities. Justify the approaches.

Task D – Network Diagram and it’s Explanation


1. COSMOTECH LTD. premise has an Administrative Office. Next to the
Administrative Office, it has got a Manager room, Accounts Section room,
Receptionist room. Apart from these, the company premise has got a CEO
chamber and a Meeting/Training room next to the Administrative Office.
Desktop are used in the room general office for the employee. The laptops
are added in the manager’s room, meeting room and so on. Draw a logical
network diagram with the placement of laptops, desktops, routers, switch,
firewalls, patch-panel, smart-phones, tables and so on devices are used as
per the requirement.

2. Define the IP address and subnet mask for the devices that are used in the
network.

3. Explain the device connectivity including hardware, cable, jacks, etc.in your
network and justify these connections.

Task E – Remote Access

COSMOTECH LTD. should have remote access facility into its office network.
Design an appropriate and secured remote access facility for its remote users who
want to accomplish their job from their home or other places using the Internet .

Submission Details
Only submit the docx or PDF file that contains the report. Any photos, pictures or
drawings must be embedded into the report. Submission must be online via Turnitin
Dropbox located in the Learning Management System (LMS).

Feedback and Marks


Feedback and marks will be provided via the LMS within two weeks of
submission.
