Executive Summary (Abstract)

ETABS (Extended Three-dimensional Analysis of Building Systems) is a

sophisticated structural analysis and design software developed by Computers

and Structures, Inc. (CSI). It is widely used by civil and structural engineers for

modeling, analyzing, and designing buildings, particularlyhigh-rise and complex

structures. ETABS integrates various aspects of structural engineering into a

single user-friendly interface. It supports 3D modeling, linear and nonlinear

analysis, dynamic analysis (including response spectrum and time history), and

detailed design for materials like concrete and steel according to international

design codes. The software offers advanced tools for modeling components such

as slabs, beams, columns, shear walls, and foundations, with powerful meshing

and load assignment capabilities.

1. Objective(s)

To provide a user-friendly platform for creating accurate 3D models of building

structures, including floors, columns, beams, walls, and foundations.

2. Scope
ETABS is specifically designed for the structural analysis and design of

buildings, ranging from simple residential structures to complex high-rise and

irregular-shaped buildings. Its scope covers a

wide range of engineering tasks including:

3. 3D Modeling of Structures:

Allows detailed modeling of multi-story buildings with features like grids,

levels, and alignment tools.

4. Material and Section Properties:

Supports a variety of materials (concrete, steel, composite) and standard or

custom crosssections.

5. Load Application:

Facilitates the application of various loads such as dead loads, live loads, wind,

seismic,temperature, and user-defined loads.

6. Static and Dynamic Analysis:

Capable of performing both linear and nonlinear static and dynamic analysis

including earthquake simulation.

7. Relevance to the industry

ETABS holds significant importance in the construction and structural

engineering industry due to

its powerful features and tailored capabilities for building design. It has become

a standard tool used

by structural engineers, consulting firms, and construction companies worldwide

for the following

reasons:

1. Industry Standard for Building Design:

ETABS is widely accepted and trusted in the structural design of commercial,

residential, and high-rise buildings, ensuring compliance with international

standards.

2. Support for Modern Construction Needs:

With growing demand for complex architectural designs and taller structures,

ETABS provides the tools to analyze and design safe and economical buildings.

3. Integration with BIM Workflows:

ETABS supports Building Information Modeling (BIM) by integrating with

tools like AutoCAD, Revit, and SAFE, making it ideal for ultidisciplinary

collaboration.

4. Time and Cost Efficiency:

Its automation features significantly reduce design time, manual calculation

errors, and project costs, making it attractive for fast-paced industry projects.

5. Seismic and Wind Design Capabilities:

ETABS is particularly valuable in seismic zones and high-wind regions, offering

dynamic analysis tools essential for safety and code compliance.

5.Methodology/Procedure

• pervious lab

• Select the select bar than properties than slab section.

• select the slab u define earlier.

• select the slab.

• press the assign bar than shell loads than uniform loads.

• select live load and enter the value of load according to requirements.
• load is applied.

• select the define option from the toolbar than load patterns.
• name the load select the type adjust the self weight and press the add new load.

• after adding the load u can see that loads in uniform loads.
• select the super dead load and select the value of load.

• if u can check how many loads are apply select the slab and right click following window appear
and u can check the loads that are applied.
• add more loads repeating same procedure but for earthquake load is applied in x and y both
direction.

• for wind load adjust the value according to your site condition.
• for earthquake load in x direction uncheck the y direction box and enter the values according to
pakistani standards and american standard.

• for y direction unchecked the x boxes and fill the values by standards.
• now we add load combination.

• select add new combination.

• name your load combination and select the values according to your combination.

• we can add our cobination successfully.

• if u want all combination according to your code slect the option add default design
combination.

• check the boxes as shown in picture and select ok.

• all the combination were added.

• now add diaphragms.

• select add new.

• name your diaphragm and select rigid than press ok.

• select slab section by repeating same procedure.

• press on select option your slab is selected.

• select the assign option from toolbar than select shell in last select diaphragms.

• select diaphragm that u define.

• diaphragm is applied.

• select ground level.

• select assign option from toolbar than joint and than restraints.

• checked all boxes and select fixed support.

• u can see our supports are fixed.

• select the option analyze from toolbar and run analysis.

• save your file in your pc.

• u can see bending in your slabs.

• select the option from toolbar .

• this window pop up select the combo and select the load combination as your requirements and
check the boxes as given in pictures.

• shearvforce and bending moment are shown.

• now see moment at 2*2.
• shear 2*2.
• select elevetaion from toolbar and select 3 option.
