Types of Disabilities
Visual Impairment

Meaning: Partial or total inability to see, including blindness and low vision.

Causes: Genetic conditions, diseases (e.g., glaucoma), accidents, malnutrition.

Interventions: Braille, screen readers, guide dogs, corrective surgeries, accessible environments.

Hearing Impairment

Meaning: Mild hearing impairment to profound deafness.

Causes: Genetic etiology, infections (e.g., meningitis), noise exposure, aging.

Interventions: Hearing aids, cochlear implants, sign language, captioned services.

Specific Learning Disabilities (e.g., Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia)

Meaning: A reading, writing, arithmetic, or motor disability in spite of average ability.

Causes: Neurological differences, genetic etiology, prenatal exposure to toxins.
