Topic 1: Introductory Math

Section: Arithmetic Operations with Notations

Answers

1. Basic Arithmetic:

a. 345 + 278 = 623

b. 975 - 586 = 389

c. 46 × 12 = 552

d. 864 ÷ 6 = 144

2. Order of Operations (BODMAS/PEMDAS):

a. 6 + 3 × (8 - 5)^2 = 6 + 3 × 9 = 6 + 27 = 33

b. (15 + 5) × 2^2 - 10 = 20 × 4 - 10 = 80 - 10 = 70

3. Percentage:

a. 15% of 2,400 = (15/100) × 2400 = 360

b. Discount = 25% of 1200 = 300, Sale Price = 1200 - 300 = 900

4. Profit and Loss:

a. Profit = 1000 - 800 = 200; Profit % = (200/800) × 100 = 25%

b. Cost Price = 750 + 150 = 900; Loss % = (150/900) × 100 ~ 16.67%

5. VAT and Discount:

a. VAT = 10% of 2000 = 200; Total Price = 2000 + 200 = 2200

b. After 10% discount: 1000 - 100 = 900; After 5% discount: 900 - 45 = 855
6. Simple Equations:

a. 3x + 5 = 20 -> 3x = 15 -> x = 5

b. 2(x - 4) = 10 -> x - 4 = 5 -> x = 9

7. Real-Life Application:

a. 650 × 26 = 16,900

b. Average speed = 720 ÷ 9 = 80 km/h

Conclusion:

These answers provide solutions to foundational math problems that build core arithmetic and

problem-solving skills for business applications.
