AIM : Introduction of Wonderware InTouch (Basic HMI Interface using Tags and Animation)

OVERVIEW

Wonderware InTouch is a popular industrial software solution used in Supervisory Control

and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to monitor and control automated processes in real-
time. It is widely used across industries such as manufacturing, energy, water treatment, oil
and gas, and more. Wonderware provides a highly visual and intuitive interface that allows
operators, engineers, and managers to interact with various systems, detect issues, and
control processes from a centralized location.

Key Features of Wonderware InTouch

1. Real-Time Data Visualization: Wonderware offers real-time visuals that show the
status of various equipment and processes. This helps users quickly understand
system performance and identify potential issues.
2. Control and Automation: Operators can control and adjust processes directly
through Wonderware’s interface. This is particularly useful in environments where
adjustments are needed on the fly to maintain efficiency and safety.
3. Data Integration and Interfacing: Wonderware InTouch can interface with
programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other hardware, which allows it to
connect seamlessly with existing equipment and collect data from multiple sources.
4. Alarm Management: Wonderware has advanced alarm features that help users
focus on critical issues. By aggregating alarms and reducing distractions, it enables
faster response times to real problems.
5. Historical Data and Reporting: InTouch can store data over time, allowing users to
analyze trends, generate reports, and make data-driven decisions for process
improvements.
6. User-Friendly Graphics: The software is known for its intuitive graphics, making it
easier for non-technical users to operate. Visual representations simplify complex
data, enabling faster and more effective decision-making.

Applications of Wonderware InTouch

 Industrial Manufacturing: To control assembly lines and monitor machine status.

 Utilities and Energy: To manage power distribution and monitor electrical grids.
 Water and Wastewater: For managing treatment plants and ensuring safe water
quality.
 Oil and Gas: To monitor and control extraction and refining processes.
 Food and Beverage: To ensure smooth production processes and maintain quality
standards.

Wonderware InTouch is an essential tool for improving productivity, safety, and efficiency in
industrial settings. By providing comprehensive monitoring and control capabilities, it
empowers users to keep operations running smoothly and reduce downtime and
maintenance costs.
Features available in Wonderware InTouch

Application Manager – Where simulation files can be stored

User Interface – Where design and simulations are carried out

Wizard Selection – Where required instruments are available
Symbol Factory – Where a wide variety of instruments are available
Runtime – Where the simulations can be demonstrated
EXPERIMENT – 2

AIM : Write a program for historical trends application using Wonderware InTouch software

PROCEDURE
1. For recording historical trends, a database is needed.
2. Here, the variables being measured are temperature, pressure and level.
3. The variation of the above parameters is observed graphically in time.
4. The variation of the three parameters can be streamlined by connecting them all with a
switch and writing the suitable code in Windows Script as shown below.
RESULTS

Historical data showing variation in three parameters

EXPERIMENT – 3

AIM : Simulation for object animation using SCADA in Wonderware InTouch

PROCEDURE
1. Simulation for traffic control has been designed using Wonderware InTouch
2. Traffic lights are installed in four different locations at a junction. When the traffic lights
turn red, the vehicle that is located opposite to the traffic light starts moving. Similarly, the
other vehicles also move according to the status of the traffic lights.
3. The coding for the simulation is as shown below.

RESULTS

Vehicle 1 movement when traffic lights turn green

Vehicle 2 movement when traffic lights turn green

Vehicle 3 movement when traffic lights turn green

Vehicle 4 movement when traffic lights turn green
EXPERIMENT – 4

AIM : To design a real-time clock application using Wonderware InTouch

PROCEDURE
1. Select an analog clock from the Symbol Factory.
2. Assign the tag names to hours, minutes and second hands of the clock.
3. Bring in switches and sliders to control the operation of the clock. Assign the switches
and sliders with the required tag names.
4. Below provided are the Window Scripts for the clock operation.
RESULTS

Time – 00:00:31
Time – 00:01:46

Time – 00:02:36
EXPERIMENT - 5

AIM : To design a solar power park using Wonderware InTouch

PROCEDURE
1. Assemble all the required components and arrange them accordingly on the windows.
2. Put a slider and connect it to the movement of the sun throughout the day.
3. As the sun moves and the time changes, change the orientation of the solar panels so
that their surfaces of the panels end up facing the sun at all times.
4. Write the required Windows Script as shown below to automate the slider.

RESULTS

Solar panel orientation during noon

Solar panel orientation during noon

Solar panel orientation during evening

EXPERIMENT – 6

AIM : To design an automatic sorting conveyor belt system using Wonderware InTouch for
differentiating between defective and non-defective goods

PROCEDURE
1. Collect all the required items and assemble them accordingly as shown in the windows.
2. Connect the box hook and the boxes to the slider and also connect the slider to the
switch for automating the entire procedure.
3. Assign the required orientation to the wheels and connect it to the slider as well.
4. Assign the following codes to the Window Scripts which is required for the entire process.
RESULTS

Non-defective product as indicated by the detector through green light

Non-defective product dropped for entering into the assembly area for storage
Defective product as indicated by the detector through red light

Defective product being taken away for rectification
