(40 marks)

Question 1: Retrieval
3 marks: One mark per piece of information
5 minutes Decode (pull apart) the question so you know exactly what is asked of you.
You only need to write the answer. Try not to waste time using full sentences!
Your answer must be specific, e.g. ‘more than..’ , ‘years’ etc.

Question 2: How
10 marks: 5-7 quotes
No zooms.
15 minutes
Decode the question so you know exactly what is asked of you and which part to spit back.
Repeat the sentence starters: The writer says, [quote] This shows [spit back the question] because…
Quote + accurate explanation= 1 mark

Question 5: Comparison Retrieval
4 marks: You must use both texts to receive more than 1 mark.
5 minutes Decode the question so you know exactly what information you are looking for
You only need to find relevant quotes. You don’t need to explain.
Make sure you label the text: In the old text, it says [quote] In the new text, it says [quote] Repeat!
Tick marked: 1 Quote= 1 mark. 2 quotes from each text, or 3 from one and 1 from the other.

Question 6: Long Comparison


10 marks: You can get up to 6 marks doing the same thing as Q5.
Decode the question so you know exactly what information you are looking for. 15 minutes
Cross out the second bullet point. It is not important to you.
Make sure you label the texts: In the old text, it says [quote] However, in the new text, it says [quote] Repeat!
Tick marked up to 6 marks: 1 Quote= 1 mark. 3 quotes from each text.
