The study investigates the academic challenges faced by Grade 12 STEM students at Mangingisda National High School and their coping mechanisms. It aims to analyze demographic profiles, identify specific challenges, and assess how students cope with these difficulties using a quantitative research design and survey questionnaires. The completion rates in STEM disciplines in the Philippines are notably low, highlighting the importance of understanding these challenges for better educational outcomes.

Title: The Academic Challenges Of Grade 12 Science Technology Engineering

Mathematics Of Mangingisda National High School And Their Coping
Mechanism

Background of the Study

According to (Rogayan et al) In the Philippines, STEM learning starts in the

basic education. During the senior high school (Grade 11-12), students may
choose to enroll under academic track which offers the STEM strand. The first
batch of STEM seniorhigh school students in the Philippines.enrolled in June
2016 which marked the full implementation of the K12 basic education
curriculum. Thus, studying in STEM track face academical challenges such as
Quizzes, Recitation, and Projects related to STEM.The Commission on Higher
Education report as cited in Rafanan et al. (2020) reveals that the completion
rate across STEM disciplines is only 21.10% based on the average 5-year
data up until 2016-2017. They cite the completion rates as follows, science
(25.52%), mathematics (21.20%), information technology (19.56%),
engineering and technology (18.97%), and medical and allied fields
(14.38%). when students struggle in science classes, they may misperceive
their struggle as an indication that they are not good at science and will
never succeed in it (Dweck, 2010, 2012; H. Hong & Lin-Siegler, 2012). This
study aims to describe the academical challenges of the Science Technology
Engineering and Mathematics Grade 12 Students of Mangingisda National
High School. By identifying the academical challenges they face and how
they cope up with these academical challenges.

______
Statements of the Problem

This study aims to determine the academic challenges

of Grade 12 STEM Students of Mangingisda National Highschool

Specifically, it will answer these questions:

• What is the demographic profile of the correspondents?

a. Age

b. Gender

c. Grades

• What are the academic challenges that they're facing?

• How do they cope with these challenges?

Research Design

This quantitative research design focuses on the academic challenges of

Grade 12 STEM students through the collection and analysis of numerical
data. The study aims to identify the challenges and the coping mechanism of
the students. Data will be gathered through survey questionnaire with
analysis using descriptive.

Participants and Settings

This research focuses on Grade 12 STEM students of Mangingisda National

High School. The selected respondents are the STEM students enrolled in the
current academic year. They were chosen to assess the academic challenges
they are facing.

Reserch Instruments/Data Collection

The researchers used a survey questioner to collect information of the

respondents in which options are given for them to choose their answers to
see the problems. The respondent of the study are Student of MNHS.

Research Procedure

The researchers formulated survey questionnaires. The instrument used in

the research was constructed and validated. The approval of the research
adviser was sought to conduct an interview with Grade 12 STEM students of
MNHS. The survey questionnaires answered in a test paper. The gathered
data were intepreted by the reserchers.
