Abstract
This document explores the concept of leadership styles within the "Behavioral Leadership"

theory. It discusses three main styles: autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire, and their

suitability for different organizational structures. This analysis also explores the alignment

between Jack Ma's democratic leadership style and the organizational context of three

hypothetical entities categorized under the "Behavioral Leadership" theory.

JACK MA'S LEADERSHIP STYLE

Discussing and justifying which leadership style from the "Behavioral

Leadership" theory (autocratic, democratic, or laissez-faire) would be appropriate for the

organizations described below.

For Organization A, an autocratic leadership style would be suitable. This

organization operates in a highly regulated industry where quick decision-making and clear

direction are crucial. An autocratic leader can effectively enforce compliance with industry

standards and ensure adherence to strict protocols, minimizing risks and maintaining

operational efficiency.

For Organization B, a democratic leadership style is more appropriate. This

organization values employee input and innovation, requiring a leader who fosters

collaboration and participative decision-making. A democratic leader would empower

employees, encouraging them to share ideas and take ownership of projects, ultimately

fostering a culture of creativity and engagement.

For Organization C, a laissez-faire leadership style might be suitable. This

organization comprises a team of highly skilled professionals who require minimal

supervision and prefer autonomy in their work. A laissez-faire leader would provide the

necessary resources and support while allowing employees the freedom to manage their tasks

independently, promoting individual initiative and creativity

My chosen leader is Jack Ma. I will analyze his leadership style according to

the “Behavioral Leadership” theory.

Jack Ma’s Biography

Jack Ma was born on September 10, 1964 in Hangzhou, China. He is the

founder

and chairman of the giant E-Commerce company Alibaba which was founded in 1999 in

China. Alibaba itself has reached up to Go International which can even be a competitor

to other E-Commerce such as Amazon and eBay. This Chinese man Ma yun was born to

a family that arguably has no official or important background, his parents are opera singers.

Even Jack Ma admitted that he had experienced bullying when he was a child

because his friend mocked Jack Ma's small and short body size. Jack Ma's ingenious and

future-oriented way of thinking makes the origin of Alibaba group different from other E-

Commerce platforms. One of Jack Ma's most famous mottos, "Never Give up", Reflects the

attitude with which Jack Ma has faced rejection throughout his life .

Jack Ma's leadership approach

Jack Ma's leadership style aligns closely with a democratic approach. He is

known for empowering his employees, encouraging innovation, and fostering a collaborative

work environment at Alibaba. Ma believes in listening to diverse perspectives and involving

employees in decision-making processes, which has contributed to Alibaba's success as a

global tech giant.

Considering Ma's democratic leadership style, Organization B would be

better suited for him. This organization values employee participation and innovation, traits

that align with Ma's leadership philosophy. In such an environment, Ma could leverage his

expertise in fostering collaboration and empowering teams to drive innovation and growth

effectively.

conclusion

Overall, Ma's democratic leadership style would thrive in an organization that

values employee input and fosters a culture of innovation and collaboration, making

Organization B an ideal fit.
