Essay Comparing Frankenstein And In The Time Of The...
Although Mary Shelley and Julia Alvarez are very different authors, and Frankenstein and In the
Time of the Butterflies are very different books, there are still similar themes between the two
fictional stories. Some common themes are the power of words, murder, family relationships, and
misused power. Additionally, there is a similar style of writing that mixes the narrative voices used
to tell the stories. Some parts of the stories are first person narratives and some are second hand
retelling. The mix of voices telling the two stories makes both of them more interesting. Speaking is
something which both Frankenstein and In the Time of the Butterflies contain as a way of
communication, but it s also a symbol for revenge and education. Words are a powerful weapon that
can be used to both unite and destroy people. In Frankenstein, the monster learns how to speak,
using his words to eventually convey to Victor what he wants. In the book In the Time of the
Butterflies, the Mirabal sisters learn how to use their voices to spread the truth about Trujillo and his
actions. Murderplays a big part in both Frankenstein and In the Time of the Butterflies,... Show more

There is a combination of first person narratives and second hand retelling. In Frankenstein, Captain
Walton starts telling the story of Frankenstein by way of his letters to his sister, Margaret Walton
Saville. Some parts of the story come from Victor directly, as he shares them with Captain Walton.
The story concludes with Captain Walton taking over the storytelling again. In In the Time of the
Butterflies, the story is also told using a mix of narrative voices. It unfolds in three sections and an
epilogue. The story starts with a woman interviewing Dede about her three deceased sisters. Then the
three sisters stories are told using first person narrations, interspersed in the three sections. The
epilogue is then narrated by the fourth sister,

Dead Panic Compare And Contrast
The two games designed by Justin De Witt, Castle Panic which was released in 2009, and Dead
Panic, released in 2013, that have very similar mechanics and gameplay. Castle Panic is a game
about defending six towers from being destroyed by incoming monsters, while Dead Panic is about
surviving and escaping a zombie apocalypse in a cabin in the woods. The two games have some
major similarities that they share, but also some important differences that make themselves unique.
Both games can have 2 to 6 players, but there are other similarities that link these two games, such as
the enemies in the games. Each game has enemies on small tokens that enter the game when drawn
from a bag. For both games the monsters have health that when damaged, is turned to lower their
health until it hits zero and is then taken of the board. Another similarity between the games is...

In Castle Panic there are the plain monsters such as trolls and goblins, and in Dead Panic there are
brutes and shamblers. The difference that sets the two apart is that Castle Panic includes boss
monsters that make the game more difficult, while in Dead Panic, when you defeat a monster
then they can enter the game again later. Between the two games monsters move differently in
one compared to the other, in Castle Panic monsters move forward one towards the center after
each player s turn, whereas in Dead Panic monsters move in one towards the cabin, unless it s a
sprinter or the zombies have a direct line of sight to someone who is outside, then they move
towards that player. The major difference between the two games is the objective to win the
game, for Castle Panic you must survive all the waves of monsters without losing all of the towers
in the center, while in Dead Panic you must collect three radio pieces to call in the car and escape,
but you don t need everyone to win if they die to the

INTRODUCTION: Swiss French writer, painter and mostly self taught architect Le Corbusier was
one of the pioneers of what is now called Modern architecture or the International style. He is best
known for his architectural projects and theoretical thought. (Liukkonen, P. 2008. Creative

movement and separated spaces. Ramps on the other hand linked spaces by encouraging continual

Cambrian Explosion
Around 530 million years ago, the Cambrian explosion made a significantly fast appearance of
main groups of complex organism. This was confirmed by the fossil record. Along the support by
an apparent diversification of various living things, including phytoplankton, calcimicrobes and
also animals. 580 million years before this, most life forms were basic, made out of individual
cells occasionally sorted out into colonies. The Cambrian explosion can be said to happen in

early Cambrian as they established in the waters column. The pace of advancement found in the
Cambrian times of the explosion is not paralleled amongst the marine creatures: it changed all
metazoan clades where Cambrian fossils were found. Later radiations, the fish in the Silurian and
Devonian era, included less taxa, for the most part with basically the same body plans. Despite...

Additionally, variation amongst the offspring plays a role in survival as well where only the

The Bodhisattva
Bodhisattva is a sculpture from the region of central Tibet, now displayed in the Rubin Museum in
New York. It is a large scale sculpture, standing at approximately 6 7/8 inches, that was made by
craftsmen recruited in Tibet, who were known for their artistic skills. Bodhisattvas are awakened
beings who aspire to attain enlightenment and help others to achieve it by postponing nirvana and
buddhahood. This sculpture is portrayed in a harmonious and compassionate state. The Bodhisattva is
showcased as a mentor figure, seeking to help others achieve enlightenment, through its pose, facial
expression, and body movement. The pose of the Bodhisattva represents itself holding itself back,

The representation of its high class status allows the Bodhisattva to be revered upon by many to
help them grasp their way towards achieving enlightenment. Probably the most noticeable piece
of the sculpture is the lavish jewelry the Bodhisattva wears. The use of copper enhances the
jewelry that adorns its body. It is wearing a three leaved bejeweled crown and there is the
dramatic rendering of the hair where the strands of braids end in little curls as it rests towards its
broad shoulders. There are insets of precious stones visible on the bejeweled crown, large earrings,
pearl necklace, armbands, and bracelets that are now
The I-Other Duality
Zygmunt Bauman best describes the self/other duality where identities are set up in dichotomies in
this quote:
Woman is the other of man, animal is the other of human, stranger is the other of native, abnormality
the other of norm, deviation the other of law abiding, illness the other of health, insanity the other of
reason, lay public the other of the expert, foreigner the other of state subject, enemy the other of
friend.
The question of the Other the one different from yourself and those similar to yourself is ideal for
exploration within science fiction, which has always stretched the boundaries of what is possible
and imaginable. The Other can be different from the Self in its sex, income, language, race, anatomy,
etc., and Le Guin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Gethenians, being unique in the Hainish universe should by all accounts be the ultimate Other,
different in not only culture but in their physiology, but the Ekumen subverts the I Other duality
metaphorized as androgyny , by sending the Envoy alone, isolated from his own world to

scene on the ice, after Estraven and Ai have become closer, they say good night to each other using
first names, and Ai is so alienated by the whole experience, that he describes them both as aliens as
if he was a third person narrator . The sense of slowly becoming equals matures even more when
they discover that they have similar motivations that made them exiles from their
Essay on The Many Versions of The Legend of King Arthur
The Many Versions of The Legend of King Arthur

There are countless versions of the legend of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table. Most
English versions are based on Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, but where did these tales
originate, and what different interpretations are there today? This essay seeks to examine the roots
and different renditions of the various legends circulating today. The first section deals with the
origins of the legend. The second section speculates on who the real King Arthur could have been. A
comparison of several different versions, and suggestions of why they differ are given in the third
section, and the conclusion presents an analysis on the ambiguity of the legend.

He was also the first to use the name Camelot for Arthur s headquarters, and it was he who first
told us of the Grail, though he didn t associate any religious meaning to it (It was Robert de Boron
who is responsible for transforming the grail into a holy symbol, in 1210). He was the first to
supply the literary form of the romance, to the transmission of the stories of Arthur. (Britannia
web page) In the early 13th century, the Vulgate Cycle is written, changing the stories from verse
to prose. The material begins to take on more historical and religious overtones, and here the idea
that Mordred is the incestuous son ofArthur is introduced (David Nash Ford web page). In the
15th century, Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte de Arthur is published. It is the definitive English
Athurian romance (Britannia web page), and With one stroke of his pen, he transformed Arthur s
Court from Dark Age obscurity to the height of middle age pageantry (David Nash Ford web
page). It is on this book that many of the modern versions are based, but by this time, it is mainly a
work of literature, and there is little history left amongst his pages. From these roots, many famous
poets and writers have been inspired. William Blake, Sir Walter Scott, William Wordsworth, Ralph
Waldo Emerson, Matthew Arnold Alfred Lord Tennyson, Mark Twain, Thomas Hardy, C.S.Lewis,
John Steinbeck, Mary Stuart, and many, many more According to Geoffrey
Yosemite Land History
In June 1864 the Yosemite Land Grant was signed by Abraham Lincoln, which deeded 39,000
acres of the Mariposa Big Tree Grove and Yosemite Valley to the State of California (Hawken 40).
It was an unprecedented piece of legislation, having almost universal support from private
business, environmentalists and Congress. Sparked largely by the de barking of The Mother of
the Forest , one of the oldest sequoias in Yosemite s Mariposa Grove, several years earlier
(Hawken 39). The Yosemite Land Grant was the first piece of legislation founded on the principle
that nature needed to be preserved and protected from humans (Hawken 40). After nearly a century
of clearing many forests on the East Coast, affording protection to land on the West Coast was a
novel concept.
Forests were largely regarded as dangerous up until that point; uncharted lands that could only be
made safe for an expanded society by cutting and clearing them. After pieces of bark from The
Mother of the Forest were displayed in New York in 1854, naturalists, journalists and artists
journeyed to California to document the sequoias (Hawken 39). Without their accounts, both written
and visual, the wonder of that land may not have been understood by members of the government
back in Washington. Eight years after the Yosemite Land Grant, Yellowstone became the first
national park in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As environmental and suitability movements continue to evolve and grow, the importance of
bringing society from a state of awareness to one of consciousness is key to their long term

Reducing Invasive Species
Do people ever wonder why there are flowers that are just there on the side of the road and nowhere
else? That is because they are invasive. Some people think those flowers should stay until nature
takes care of them. Others think people should take steps to remove them or atleast reduce them. I
believe taking steps to help restore the original species will reduce environment change, animal
invasions, and native extinction.

First, reducing environment change is a good step towards getting rid of invasive species. In the
article it states, They [goldfish] are also an ecological nightmare. Goldfish swim along the bottom of
lakes and rivers, uprooting vegetation, disturbing sediment and releasing nutrients that trigger excess
algal growth. They feed broadly, eating algae, small invertebrates and fish eggs. To add insult to
injury, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proves that the goldfish are not the cute tank creature we think of it of but really an invasive
specie that ruins the environment and kills the native species already living there not to mention
eating the other fish s eggs. Therefore, people should not be helping the invasive species by letting
them out of there tanks because they are killing the native species that are already living there while
ruining the environment. Taking steps to reduce environment change will reduce invasive species as
well. In conclusion, I think reducing environment change is one step to having no invasive species.

Second, preventing animal invasions will help restore the native species to their original state. In
the text it states, Florida is now officially the world capital for invasive and potentially invasive
reptiles and amphibians, according to a 20 year study verifying that 56 non native species of these
animals have become established
