LIST OF CATEGORY ITEMS

Category Description

Category 1(A) : Within territorial waters (no limitation).

Category 1(B) : Within territorial waters and in favourable weather.

Category 1(C): Exclusively between the Port of Marsaxlokk (MFT) and


designated spoil ground within 4NM from coast in favourable weather and
wave height actual or forecast not exceeding 1.5 metres.

Category 1(D): Exclusively between the Port of Valletta/Marsaxlokk (MFT)


and designated spoil ground within 4NM from coast in favourable weather
and wave height actual or forecast not exceeding 1.5 metres.

Category 2(A) : Within territorial waters, not more than 12 miles from a
place of refuge, in favourable weather.

Category 2(B) : Within territorial waters, not more than 12 miles from a
place of refuge, in favourable weather and in daylight.

Category 2(C): Within Cirkewwa and sea passage from Cirkewwa and spoil
ground off Valletta and vice versa in favourable weather and in daylight.

Category 3(A) : Within 3 miles from the land and not more than 3 miles
from a place of refuge, in favourable weather.

Category 3(B) : Within 3 miles from the land and not more than 3 miles
from a place of refuge, in favourable weather and in daylight.

Category 3(C) : From/to nominated departure points not more than 3 miles
from a place of refuge, in favourable weather.

Category 3(D) : From/to nominated departure points not more than 3 miles
from a place of refuge, in favourable weather and in daylight.

Category 3(E) : Within an area bound by the following positions:


Dragonara Point, one cable east of Merkanti Light Beacon, St Julians Point
and the intermediate coastline, in favourable weather conditions.

Category 3(F) : From/to Wied iz-Zurrieq and Blue Grotto, not more than 1
mile from a place of refuge (Wied iz-Zurrieq), in favourable weather and in
daylight.

Category 3(G) : From/to Dwejra Bay and Dwejra Caves, not more than 1 mile from a
place of refuge (Dwejra Bay), in favourable weather and in daylight.

Category 3(H) : From/to: Marfa - Comino and Mgarr (Gozo) - Comino; not more
than 3 miles from a place of refuge, in favourable weather.

Category 3(I) : Within 1 mile from Anchor Bay, in favourable weather and in
daylight.

Category 3(J) : Within 1 mile from the land and not more than 1 mile from a place of
refuge, in favourable weather and in daylight.

Category 3(J) – 30 : Not more than 1 mile from the land and not more than 1 mile
from a place of refuge, but not less than 30 meters from the land and wide berth from
any persons or object in the water, in favorable weather and in daylight.

Category 3(J) – 100 : Not more than 1 mile from the land and not more than 1 mile
from a place of refuge, but not less than 100 meters from the land and wide berth from
any persons or object in the water, in favorable weather and in daylight.

Category 3(J) – 200: Not more than 200 metres from land, in favorable weather and in
daylight.

Category 3(K) : Within 3 miles from the land and not more than 3 miles from a place
of refuge, in favorable weather (winds not exceeding Beaufort Force 4) and in daylight.

Category 3(L): Within an area bound by the following positions: San Gorg Point, one
cable North East of Merkanti light Beacon, Sliema Point and the intermediate coastline
in favourable weather and in daylight.

Category 3(M): Within an area bound by the following positions: Gebel tac-Cawl, Ras
il-Qala, Ghemieri, Ghar Ghana and the intermediate coastline in favourable weather
and in daylight.

Category 4(A) : Exclusively engaged in port areas.

Category 4(B) : Exclusively engaged in port area (Marsaxlokk Harbour).

Category 4(C) : Within Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour including the sea
crossing, in favourable weather, between the nominated harbours.
Category 4(D) : Within Marsaxlokk Harbour and its approaches.

Category 4(E) : Within Marsamxett Harbour on moorings at the allocated


position off Haywharf.

Category 4(F) : Exclusively within Marsamxetto Harbour or Grand Harbour in


favourable weather.

Category 4 (G) : Exclusively within a bay in favourable weather and in daylight.

Category 4 (H) : within 1 mile from the land, subject to all restrictions as
stipulated in the conditions attached to the Commercial Vessel Certificate.

Category 4 (I) : within Marfa-Comino-Mgarr (Gozo) area in favourable


weather.

Category 4 (J): Exclusively within Grand Harbour in favourable weather.

Category 4 (K): Exclusively within Harbours and Bays in favourable


weather

Class C : Within sea area as specified in Article 4 of Council Directive


2009/45.

Class D : Within sea area as specified in Article 4 of Council Directive


2009/45.
