About CAT
The Certified Accounting Technician qualification is recognised all around the world and is awarded by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. The CAT qualification comprises a combination of exams and practical experience and is designed to equip you with all the necessary technical skills and knowledge required to fulfill an accounting role to technician level. It also provides a firm foundation of knowledge and the opportunity to fast track towards becoming a professional ACCA accountant. Although CAT can be obtained as a stand-alone qualification, it is often the case that individuals study for CAT as an introductory qualification in accountancy prior to training to become a Chartered Accountant through the ACCA Qualification. You will need to complete nine out of ten exams for the CAT Qualification. On completion of the exams and one years practical experience, you will be able to call yourself a Certified Accounting Technician and use the designation CAT after your name. You will also be eligible for automatic transfer to the ACCA Professional Scheme qualification, and entitled to exemption from the Knowledge Module of the programme. The CAT usually takes one and a half years to complete the nine CAT exams.
Entry Requirements
Candidates should be at least 16 years of age. There are no formal academic qualifications necessary to register for the CAT Qualification, but previous qualifications may entitle you to exemptions from some of the CAT exams.
Structure
The qualification is split into three levels. The Advanced Level exams are of equivalent standard to the first year of a university degree and offer a choice of options to suit your career needs.

Training Options
We offer a range of training options for the CAT Qualification:
Part-time evening Courses are offered for all papers of the CAT programme except Paper 9. They consist of weekly 2 or 3 hour lectures for each paper being attempted. The entire syllabus is covered over a 6 month period. On completion of courses, revision courses are held for all papers ahead of the bi-annual examination sittings; Intensive Block Courses - these courses are offered based on demand for all papers except Paper 9. They are conducted over a 3 or 4 day period, where sessions are held for 7 hours each day. The entire syllabus is covered in this period, and examinations are attempted in June or December; CBE Intensive Block Courses - similar to the intensive block course above, however these courses are only available for the papers that can be taken via the CBE examination format. 3 day courses are offered for CAT Papers 1 and 2, while 4 day courses are held for CAT Papers 3 & 4. At the conclusion of the course, students are required to sit the examination within 1 week using our Computer Based Examination (CBE) Option. The courses are structured to cater primarily to students that may be repeating courses following receipt of results, with strict attention to the CBE format of questions. Your results will be available immediately on completion of the CBE examination. Weekend Block Courses are conducted over a series of weekends during a 6 month period, and are currently offered for CAT Paper 9. This method of study is particularly useful to those with demanding work schedules. Examinations are taken every June and December; Revision Courses - our revision courses are held every May and November preceding examination month, and are sessions lasting 2 full days with the aim of reviewing the key areas of each syllabus of each paper with a distinct focus on ensuring students are clear on the basic principles and concepts of each syllabus and that their exam question answering techniques are at the desired levels to ensure their success.

Exams
Paper Based Exams are held twice a year in June and December. Although you can sit the papers in any order, it is advised that they be attempted in numerical order. There is no restriction to the number of exams you may attempt. We recommend that you take a maximum of four exams each sitting. At the Introductory and Intermediate Levels, you can choose to sit some or all of your papers as Computer Based Exams (CBEs). CBEs offer you the flexibility to sit papers at any time during the year you are not restricted to June and December exam sessions. CBEs are held at ACCA CBE Licensed Centres and all related exam fees are paid directly to the centre. Please note that students who are required to attempt the Introductory and Intermediate Levels papers T1 to T4 have the option of taking these papers via Computer Based Examination. Although there is no registration deadline stipulation if you are attempting your exams via computer based assessment, you must be in possession of an ACCA student registration number at the time of registering for your CBE.
