Principal’s College, situated in Addis Ababa's Kolfe Keranio Sub City, began its journey in a
thoughtfully furnished facility designed to foster an excellent learning environment. The
college's initial rented building was equipped with all the essentials to ensure that students
and instructors could engage in an effective educational experience.

Classroom Features and Enhancements:

Classrooms were outfitted with necessary furnishings such as chairs, black

and whiteboards, and instructors' tables, creating a comfortable and functional
learning space.

Each classroom was designed with ample space, accommodating 40 to 55 students,

balancing comfort with an environment conducive to learning.

initially equipped with a single LCD projector, the college has since augmented its
teaching tools to include over 4 functional projectors, enriching course material
delivery and student engagement.

The College now boasts 8 classrooms designated for undergraduate programs, each
tailored to support and enhance the educational process, holding 40 to 60 students
comfortably.

Academic Programs and Facilities Enhancement

1. Academic Programs:
Principal’s College has made significant strides in expanding its academic offerings since
receiving re-accreditation from HERQA in 2012 E.C.

2. Laboratories and Computer Facilities:

In the beginning, our laboratory infrastructure was modest, with two demonstration rooms
and lab facilities equipped to a basic standard, including a central instrumentation area,
storage and a dedicated wash area.
Over time, we've made substantial improvements:

We now have three specialized demonstration rooms each for Accounting,

Nursing, and Information Technology, enhancing our capacity to provide hands-on
learning experiences. These rooms have been partially outfitted with the necessary
materials and are supported by 04 LCD projectors to facilitate interactive learning.

Initially, the campus had 1 8 computers and was serviced by a 4mb Wi-Fi
connection. We have since upgraded our computer facilities to include 32 operational
computers, all with broadband internet access at 8mb speeds. This upgrade

8
significantly improves our digital learning resources and internet accessibility for both
staff and students.

To ensure that students can leverage these digital resources effectively, we provide
them with secure access to our Wi-Fi service by sharing internet passwords, enabling
them to access online educational materials at any time.

These enhancements to our academic programs and facilities are testament to Principal’s
College's commitment to providing a comprehensive and enriched learning environment,
geared towards the academic and professional success of our students.

3. Enhancements in Library Facilities

Principal’s College's library facilities have undergone significant improvements to better serve
our academic community. Initially, our library and digital resources were modestly established,
with a limited selection of the latest books, magazines, and newspapers available to students.
The library's initial offerings were supplemented by various publications to support student
learning, despite the constraints.

Initial Setup:

Learning resources, including the library and computer facilities, were partly
furnished to kick-start our academic programs.

The library housed a limited quantity and variety of books, magazines, and newspapers.

Library services were facilitated by two providers, operating Monday to Saturday

during regular working hours.

The library had three computers available for student use, primarily for
accessing digital resources alongside hard copies.
Current Enhancements:

The library's collection has been significantly expanded, now boasting a

comprehensive selection of the latest books, magazines, and newspapers across
various subjects and disciplines.

We have increased the number of service providers to three, extending library services
to include Sundays, effectively providing 12 hours of service each day to accommodate
more students and their schedules.

The computer facilities within the library have been upgraded to eight networked
computers, all connected to a broadband internet system. This enhancement not only
improves access to digital libraries and online resources but also supports a wider range
of academic activities and research endeavors.

9
These upgrades to our library facilities reflect Principal’s College's ongoing commitment to
providing a robust academic support system. By expanding access to both physical and digital
learning resources, we aim to enrich the educational experience for our students, fostering a
conducive environment for learning, research, and academic excellence.

4. Internet and Wi-Fi Facilities Improvement

Previous Conditions: Initially, Principal’s College faced challenges with insufficient Wi-Fi
access and a limited broadband capacity of only 2 megabits per second. This restricted the
availability and quality of internet services across the campus.

Current Upgrades:

The college has significantly upgraded its internet infrastructure to a DSL broadband
service with 8Mbps bandwidth, ensuring robust and seamless internet access for all
systems in the laboratories.

Data transfer is facilitated through Thick Ethernet CAT-6 cables, achieving speeds up
to 22 MB per second.
The network's physical layout is designed using a star topology, optimized for
efficiency and reliability with the support of switches.

5. Enhanced Safety and Sanitary Facilities

Previous Conditions:

The college initially provided two latrines, one for each gender, which were
insufficient for the growing college community.

Current Improvements:

Now, the college boasts six latrine rooms, three for each gender, enhancing the
sanitary facilities to meet the needs of our students and staff.

6. Staff Expansion and Diversity

Previous Staffing:

At the outset, Principal’s College relied on 15 permanent staff members, including

only 9 academics, to deliver its programs.

Current Staffing:

1
0
The number of permanent staff has increased to 40, with 40% being academics,
including professionals with Ass., Master's, and Bachelor's degrees.

7. Development in Department and Staff Offices

common staff office for all departments.

Current Facilities:

The college now features 3 department offices, along with dedicated offices for quality
assurance, research and community engagement, and student support. Additionally,
there are 5 administrative offices, all functioning according to the required standards.

Established as a pivotal entity within the College, the QAO is entrusted with the
critical task of ensuring the quality of teaching, research, training, and service delivery.
This is achieved through continuous review and improvement processes, embodying
the College's commitment to maintaining high standards.

Past Initiatives (2013 to 2015 E.C):

During these years, the College took proactive measures to uphold and enhance
quality across all its activities. Through a self-evaluation process, it identified
areas of weakness across ten focus areas, adopting a bottom-up approach for
thorough assessment.

1
1
This self-evaluation, spearheaded by the Quality Assurance officer and supported by
various data-gathering tools, was conducted with rigorous attention to detail despite

Birr, allocated for various operational needs. Despite numerous expenditures, the college
experienced a substantial increase in revenue from 2012 to 2014 and decline in 2015 and 2016
continuously because of the national exam failurity no students are decreases. In the fiscal
year 2014 E.C., the college reported cash revenues of 1,220,000 Birr, which saw a significant
increase to 2 million Birr, marking a 20% rise in the same fiscal year.
