Fireworks 8
Fireworks 8
Fireworks 8 is a program that works with images. This is a basic tutorial to get you familiar with the menus and tools.
Option A 1. Open the application from your dock or from the Applications folder. You will get a starter screen from which you can open a new document or you can pick New from the File menu. 2. This will give you a New Document screen where you can set the size of the canvas, the resolution, and the background of your new document. 3. If you then want to bring in an image you already have, you can use Import under the File menu. Starter Screen New Document Screen
Option B Open an image you already have with Fireworks, by dragging your image file onto the Fireworks application icon on your dock on in the Application folder. This will open your image.
THE TOOLS There are many tools and tool bars for you to use in Fireworks. Most of these can be found under the Window menu. Open the Tools bar and the Properties window (circled in blue).

If want to change your image size. Select Modify - Canvas - Image Size
You can choose to change the print size or pixel dimensions. Its best keep the constrain proportions checked.
Do not confuse the image you are viewing at a certain scale with the actual image size. If you look at the bottom of the document you will see what scale you are viewing the document.

The property inspector below (this is the window you opened at the same time you opened the tool bar) will help you with some of your objects. It will allow you to fill objects with different colors and change their outlines. It will also change depending on what part of your document you are working on, and allow you to edit the properties of different aspects of your document depending on what you have highlighted.
SAVING YOUR PROJECT You can export your images in many different formats. Use the File-Image Preview to see your list of options. You can use the Export or Image Preview options to export your image as a JPG, GIF, PNG, PICT, BMP, or TIFF. If you are going to work on your image later, you can also save it using the Save or Save As... options. This will save it as a PNG, Fireworks standard format, and will save ALL the information about your image (which exporting it may not do).
