Candidates for TRANSFORM project


Case Title: “Restoring Soils, Strengthening Voices: Community-Led Change in one south
Wollo Target Woredas and X Kebele”

Background Summary:

You are starting your role as a Community Development Facilitator in one south Wollo Target
Woredas and X Kebele, a rural community facing:

 Poor soil fertility and erosion.

 Low use of organic fertilizers like compost or vermicompost.

 A new Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) process that requires regular weekly
community meetings without any per diem or monetary incentives.

 Low participation of women and youth.

 Overloaded Development Agents (DAs).

 Previous top-down efforts that failed to bring change.

 Limited coordination between the various stakeholders

Your job is to help the community come together, plan their own solutions, and improve soil
health and fertility without relying on monetary incentives to motivate them.

Your Task:

Prepare a maximum 4 pages proposal to address the problems and 10-minute presentation
answering the following:

1. How will you motivate the community to attend PIP sessions regularly, even without
per diem?

2. What will you do to include women and youth in planning and decision-making?

3. How will you make soil health messages practical and engaging for farmers?

4. Who are the key local stakeholders you want to engage in this process and how will
you coordinate with them to plan and act together?

5. What are your first 3 steps in your first two months in the kebele?

Tips for Presenting:

 Keep your presentation simple and focused

 You can use notes, flipchart paper, or drawings to explain your ideas.

 Use local stories, examples, or real experiences if you have them.

 Keep it short and focused. Time limit: 10 minutes.
