OW2400 Sensor Chip

The document describes the OW 2400 optical waveguide grating coupler sensor chip produced by MicroVacuum. The chip uses a diffraction grating on a thin waveguide layer to couple light from a He-Ne laser into the waveguide. Changes in the coupling angle can detect adsorption of molecules on the surface with high sensitivity. The grating has a periodicity of 2400 lines/mm and dimensions of 2 mm by 16 mm. The waveguide is a SixTi(1-x)O2 layer 170-220 nm thick on a glass substrate. Main applications include protein adsorption, ligand-receptor binding, immunosensing and molecular interactions.

OW 2400
OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE GRATING COUPLER SENSOR CHIP

Grating Dot mark

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
I
W
Diffraction grating
F (waveguide film ) Surface relief structure:
S (substrate glass )
depth~20 nm
H Grating periodicity:
L 2400 lines/mm (0,4166 µm)
Grating area dimensions:
length ( l )~2 mm
Introduction width (w)=16 mm
The optical grating coupler sensor responds to the Grating lines direction:
change of optical refractive index of the liquid or parallel to the short edge of the sensor chip
gas cover medium and to the adsorption or binding Dot-mark:
of molecules on the surface. diffraction grating is uppermost, when dot mark or
number is in the upper right corner
The optical grating coupler sensor chip is based
on a fine optical grating prepared on a thin
waveguide layer carried by a glass substrate. The Planar monomode waveguide
optical grating couples the light of a He-Ne laser Waveguide material (SOL-GEL)
at a given resonance angle into the waveguide SixTi(1-x)O2 , where x=0,25±0,05
layer. This incoupling angle is very sensitive to the
presence of adsorbed molecules and to any Waveguide film
change of refractive index of the medium covering refractive index (nF)=1,77±0,03
the surface of the chip. By precise measurement thickness (dF)=170-220 nm
of the incoupling angle, the amount of the
adsorbed material can be determined with ultra Substrate glass slide
high sensit ivit y. length (L)=48 mm
width (w)=16 mm
OW 2400 sensor chips are used in high-resolution thickness (H)=0,55 mm
optical waveguide lightmode spectroscopy (OWLS). refractive index (nS)=1,53
Other substrate sizes are available on request.
