Chil-Lastic CP 79
Chil-Lastic CP 79
USES
CHIL-LASTIC CP-79 sealant/coating is used as flashing material in the sealing of boiler settings to prevent air infiltration. It is also used in refractory applications.
ADVANTAGES
CHIL-LASTIC CP-79 sealant/coating exhibits good adhesion to most surfaces. It is acid and alkali resistant and will not freeze, decompose, or show settling or separation in storage. CHIL-LASTIC CP-79 sealant/coating provides an excellent water and vapor seal. It forms a tough, protective coating when cured which does not tend to crack or peel during normal equipment operation. CHIL-LASTIC CP-79 sealant/coating requires no special mixing or additives.
DRYING TIME
(Drying time is dependent upon temperature, humidity, rate of air flow over the surface, and film thickness) Touch - 4-8 hours Through - 14 days
APPLICATION
CHIL-LASTIC CP-79 sealant/coating is normally applied by trowel or heavy duty airless spray. See reverse side for spray recommendations. CP-79-T trowel grade has a heavy body and can be applied in wet thicknesses up to 1/8 (.31cm) without sagging or running. CP-79-T or CP-79-S cannot be successfully applied by brush. CP-79-T cannot be spray applied. Failure to apply the full coverage specified can result in premature failure of the product. Do not under-apply CP-79.
COVERAGE
(Varies with substrate) CP-79-T 8 gallons per 100 sq.ft. (3.2 l/sq.m) 0.128 (3.3 mm) wet film thickness. CP-79-S 10 gallons per 100 sq.ft. (4.1 l/sq.m) 0.160 (4.1 mm wet film thickness)
VAPOR PERMEABILITY
0.01 grains/hour/sq. ft./in.
CLEAN-UP
Mineral Spirits - Flammable CP-79 contains no asbestos, lead, mercury, or mercury compounds. 8/05 DPI
4. SPRAY APPLICATION
CHIL-LASTIC CP-79-S sealant/coating is most readily applied by airless spraying equipment. Airless spray is faster, neater, and gives a better, more uniform finish. A two-coat application will be required. Allow the first coat to set firm before applying the second coat. The following spray equipment (or equal) is recommended for spray application of CP-79-S: DO NOT THIN. Average viscosity range: 100,000 - 150,000 cps. Mastic Pump - Graco 45:1 King Airless, Model 208-004 with 204502 inductor plate for 55 gallon drums or 203-452 for 5 gallon pails and 207-651 air regulator, or 30:1 Bulldog Model 206-303 with 207-279 follower plate (optional) with short material hose and warm material. A follower or inductor plate must be used. Mastic Gun - Graco Golden Gun, Model 206-718. Gun Tip - Graco Reverse-A-Clean Tip 0.045 Orifice Model No. 205-614. Material to Hose to Gun - 6 foot whip end, 1/2 I.D., working pressure 5000 psi, burst 16000 psi. Material Hose - 50 foot overall, 3/4 I.D. 50 long, working pressure 4000 psi, burst 16000 psi Material Hose - 100 foot overall, 1 I.D. 100 long, working pressure 3000 psi, 12000 psi burst. Material Hose - 150 foot overall, 1 I.D. 150 long, working pressure 3000 psi, 12000 psi burst. Heat - Store CHIL-LASTIC CP-79-S sealant/coating in a heated area. The temperature of the CP-79-S should be at least 70F (21C) before spraying. The capacity of inline heaters is too low to be effective. Air Compressor - 10 cubic feet per minute at 100 lbs. per square inch, minimum. Compressor Air Hose - The air hose from the compressor to the mastic pump should be 3/4 - 1 I.D. and no more than 100 feet long. Most manufacturers of mastic spray equipment maintain nearby service facilities to aid in the solution of any technical problems that arise with their equipment.
3. APPLICATION
Prepare steel surfaces by abrasive grit blasting to remove all traces of mill scale, rust, paint, and corrosion products. Remove all dust and grit from the surface. Apply the CP-79 promptly, before the blasted surface can flash rust. If absolutely necessary, the blasted surface may be primed with a thin coat of CP-79 cut 50/50 with mineral spirits. Apply the full thickness CP79 application within 30 days.
Consult Material Safety Data Sheet and container label for further information.
