Nominal Syatem Voltage: Loads Calculation

This document summarizes the load calculation, battery sizing, PV module sizing, and charge controller sizing for a 24V off-grid solar home system. The total daily load is 151 amp-hours with a peak current draw of 23 amps. The battery bank consists of 6 12V 200Ah batteries. The PV array has 6 Sharp 224W modules in series for a total output of 1,063W. A single Outback FM80 charge controller is specified to regulate the 24V system.

SIZING PMW SOLAR CHARGE CONTROLLERS AND In sysytems using the one-voltage-in and and -out charge controller type, all three main components must have the same nominal voltage throughout the system(PV array, charge controller, and the battery bank). For these situations, the first step in charge controller sizing is voltage selection

CONTROLLER SPECIFICATION

CONTROLLERS AND SPECIFICATION For systems in continuous operation, additional protection must be included to allow for heat and equipment stress(according to the National Electric Code[NEC]). Continuous operation is defined as three hours or longer of continuous use, which would include most PV systems. This second de-rating factor is also 1.25 or 125%.
