Reflection

The document discusses the K+12 education program in the Philippines. It proposes adding two more years to secondary education to enhance the quality of basic education. This will allow students more time to master skills and become prepared for work or higher education. However, implementing K+12 also presents challenges like increased costs for parents and fewer incoming college freshmen initially. Overall it is argued that K+12 is necessary to make Filipino students more competitive globally, but the quality of curriculum, educators, and school facilities will determine its success.

Reflection

In the Philippine setting, education is one of the most important aspects in our society. As of now, we are experiencing issues regarding the K+12 programs. It is proposed to add two more years to the secondary education curriculum. Thus, it became very controversial whether this program will be a boon or bane. It is a boon for the following reasons: First, it enhances the quality of basic education in the Philippines. The poor quality of basic education is reflected in the low achievement scores of Filipino students. Second, the program will open doors for more jobs for the youth, even without a college diploma. It aims to produce high school graduates by giving them a longer time to study and master employable skills. Lastly, Filipino graduates will be automatically recognized as professionals abroad. We will become more competitive among our countries around the world. Our quality of education is reflected in the inadequate preparation of high school graduates for the world of work, entrepreneur or higher education. On the other hand, it is a bane for the following reasons: first, parents have to shell out more money (transportation and food) for the education of their children. Parents should be properly informed and motivated of the advantages of the K+12 education plan since parents play a major role in providing the childs school allowances, supplies and fees for other school projects and activities. Second, colleges and universities will have no freshmen for two years. Lastly, the government needs to solve the number of public school classroom and adequate supply of classroom chairs, books, etc. On my perspective, K+12 program is a must in our society because it will help the students to be more literate, skilled and competitive to be able to find jobs more easily and contribute to the countrys pride as well as the economy but we must always bear in mind that quality education depends on the curriculum, the quality of educators and facilities provided for by the school campuses.
