Communication, Process 7 Ingredients

Communication involves the exchange of information between two or more people through symbolic messages. The communication process involves a sender encoding a message and transmitting it through a channel to a receiver who decodes the message. Feedback from the receiver allows the sender to evaluate how effectively the message was communicated and understood. Noise in the communication channel can interfere with the accurate transmission and understanding of the message. Effective communication is a two-way process that depends on the participants and channel used to share information.

COMMUNICATION

Process or Ingredients

INTRODUCTION
People found there was a real need to communicate.
With that communication they realized their lives were better and more pleasant. They started to observe what were the best ways to communicate .

After centuries of development, study and analysis modern day

communication has revolutionized the way we send, share, connect, exchange, speak and impact people in todays world.

DEFINITIONS
The

exchange of information (a message) between two or more people.

Communication can be defined as the process by which people share ideas, experience, knowledge and feelings through the transmission of symbolic messages. Communication is transfer of information from one person to another, whether or not it elicits confidence. But the information transferred must be understandable to the receiver G.G. Brown..

We use it to persuade, influence, inform, share, discover, and uncover information. Involves not only the spoken and written word but also

body language, personal mannerisms and style- anything

that adds meaning to a message.

1 Source; The source is an individual, group, or organization who initiates the communication. This source is initially responsible for the success of the message. The senders experiences, attitudes, knowledge, skill, perceptions, and culture influence the message. All communication begins with the source.

2 Encoding; Encoding means translating information into a message in the form of symbols that represent ideas or concepts. This process translates the ideas or concepts into the coded message that will be communicated. The symbols can take on numerous forms such as, languages, words, or gestures. These symbols are used to encode ideas into messages that others can understand.

3.Message; Message is a key idea of the communication. It is a sign that elicits the response of recipient. Communication process begins with deciding about the message to be conveyed. It must be ensured that the main objective of the message is clear.

4.Channel; Channel is a means used to transmit the message. The choice of appropriate medium of communication is essential for making the message effective and correctly interpreted by the recipient. Most channels are either oral or written, but currently visual channels are becoming more common as technology expands.

5.Decoding;Decoding is conducted by the receiver. After the appropriate channel or channels are selected, the message enters the decoding stage of the communication process. Once the message is received and examined, the stimulus is sent to the brain for interpreting, in order to assign some type of meaning to it. The receiver begins to interpret the symbols sent by the sender, translating the message to their own set of experiences in order to make the symbols meaningful. 6.Receiver;Receiver is a person for whom the message is intended. The degree to which the decoder understands the message is dependent upon various factors such as knowledge of recipient, their responsiveness to the message, and the reliance of encoder on decoder.

7.Feedback;Feedback is the final link in the chain of the communication process as it permits the sender to analyze the efficacy of the message. It helps the sender in confirming the correct interpretation of message by the decoder. Feedback may be verbal or non-verbal. It may take written form also in form of memos, reports, etc. Feedback is a key component in the communication process because it allows the sender to evaluate the effectiveness of the message.
8.Noise;The noise in the communication process is anything that interferes with the delivery of message. Every communication consists of noise. There are different types of noise; semantic, mechanical and environmental.

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMUNICATION
Communication has been defined and understood in various ways by various scholars. However some characteristic has been universally considered. Some of the characteristics of communication are; 1. It is a two-way process. 2. Communication process happens between or among two or more parties. (Sender and Receiver) 3. Communication is transactional.

4.)Communication is symbolic. 5.)There are two types of Communication i.e., Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication. 6.) Communication is closely bound with culture. 7.)Information is shared. 8.)The quality of communication process depends

upon participants and channel used.
