ENGINEER BY DEGREE..
Son of a school teacher Mr. Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy born on August 20, 1946 in Karnataka, India.

He obtained his B.E. degree in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Engineering from University of Mysore in 1967
M.Tech. from IIT, Kanpur in 1969.

EARLY STRUGGLE
His first position was at IIM Ahmedabad as chief systems programmer. Founded Softronics in 1976 and failed. Then he joined Patni Computer Systems in Pune.

BEGINNENING AT INFOSYS
In 1981, he founded Infosys with six other software professionals. He was the CEO of the company for 21 years, from 1981 to 2002 He served as the Executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor from 2002 to 2006.

TO A CHAIRMAN EMERITUS
Then he became "non-executive" Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor. In August 2011, he retired completely from the company and taking the title Chairman Emeritus.

OTHER ROLES.
He served as president of the National Association of Software and Service Companies, INDIA from 1992 to 1994. Murthy serves as an independent director on the corporate boards of HSBC and has served as a director on the boards of DBS Bank, Unilever, ICICI and NDTV. Chairman of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad between 2002 and 2007

About 80% of the middle & senior level executives were promoted from within the organization. Encouraged communication with each other & with higher management. Provides many facilities which were intended to take care of both professional & personal needs.

Groupism was not encouraged. When in doubt, disclose. Ideas that are great, deserve cheers and should be encouraged.
