Norms of Morality

Moral norms are standards that indicate the rightness or wrongness of actions and qualities. They appeal to reason and are criteria for judging how people ought to behave and what actions they ought to perform. Morality is determined by the conformity or non-conformity of actions and things to norms or criteria. There are also norms and regulations, such as traffic laws, that people need to conform to in public spaces like busy city streets for safety and order. Laws are directives for human activity that govern both nature and human actions according to philosophers like Karl Peshke.

Standards that indicate the rightfulness or wrongfulness; a value or a disvalue of a thing. Qualities that cannot just be measured by a mechanical device; moral qualities appeal only to reason. Norms of morality are criteria of judgement about the sorts of person we ought to be and the sorts of actions we ought to perform. (Richard Gula)
