Bit Torrent

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer protocol for distributing large files across the internet. It was created in 2001 by Bram Cohen and allows users to download files from multiple other users simultaneously, increasing download speeds. The protocol uses .torrent files that contain metadata about the file being shared, including its name, size, and tracker server location. Tracker servers coordinate file downloads by tracking which users have what pieces of the file and connecting downloaders to uploaders.

TORRENT

The .torrent file contains the information that points to the actual file and the people who are sharing it. PEER A peer is any computer participating in the download and upload of a torrent file. SEEDER A seed (or seeder) is anyone who has a complete copy of the file being shared across the torrent network.

LEECHER- A leech (or a leecher) is the person who does

not have the complete file yet but has joined the network to download it.
SWARM The swarm is the sum total of all the lechers and

seeders (i.e. all the computers) participating in the torrent process.

TRACKER The tracker is a server which has the

information of who has what files and who needs which ones, thus acting as a bridge between seeders and leechers.

American Programmer Bram Cohen

designed the protocol in April 2001 and released a first implementation on 02-072001. It is now maintained by Cohen's company Bit Torrent, Inc.. According to ISO Hunt, the total amount of shared content was more than 9.4 pent bytes as of 10-09-2009

To share the data using Bit Torrent we must

Have Tracker server, A file with .'torrent' extension, complete copy of the file being shared. .torrent file contains data which is essential for the protocol to function-file length, file name, information about the tracker. When we open .'torrent' file in client, it will connect to the tracker and start downloading

It is most efficient and reliable

It has bandwidth limitation Free downloads are possible

lifespan of each torrent is limited Typically, it doesnt have user friendly

Interface.
