MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR
[MBTI]
a psychometric questionnaire designed to
measure psychological preferences in how
people perceive the world and make
decisions.
These preferences were extrapolated from
the typological theories proposed by Carl
Gustav Jung
MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR
[MBTI]
helps you to identify which of the 16
personality type codes is nearest your
personality
produces an individual profile that helps you
to identify the unique aspects of your
personality.
MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR
[MBTI]
The Myers Briggs model of personality was
developed by Katherine Briggs and Isabel
Briggs Myers, and is based on four
preferences:
E or I (Extraversion or Introversion)
S or N (Sensing or intuition)
T or F (Thinking or Feeling)
J or P (Judgment or Perception)
FORMAT AND ADMINISTRATION
North American English Version
93 forced-choice questions
The choices are a mixture of word pairs and
short statements.
Choices are not literal opposites but chosen to
reflect opposite preferences on the same
dichotomy.
Participants may skip questions if they feel
they are unable to choose.
FORMAT AND ADMINISTRATION
Using item response theory, it will then be
scored and will attempt to identify the
preference and clarity of preference
During the early development of the MBTI
thousands of items were used.
did not have high midpoint discrimination,
meaning the results of that one item did not,
on average, move an individual
score away from the midpoint.
MBTI RELIABILITY
According to Capraro and Capraro (2002),
after review 17 studies reporting reliability,
coefficients of .84
MBTI VALIDITY
Furnham, Moutafi and Crump (2003) tested
900 adults with two instruments (MBTI and
NEO-PI-R). A positive relationships for validity
of the instrument.
APPLICATION
The indicator is frequently used in the areas
of pedagogy, career counselling, team
building, group dynamics, professional
development, marketing, family business,
leadership training, executive coaching, life
coaching, personal development and marriage
counselling.
CALIFORNIA PSYCHOLOGICAL
INVENTORY [CPI]
The California Psychological Inventory (CPI) is
a self-report inventory created by Harrison
Gough
1956, 1987
CPI was created to assess the everyday "folk-
concepts" that ordinary people use to
describe the behaviour of the people around
them.
FORMAT AND ADMINISTRATION
The CPI is made up of 434 true-false questions, of
which 194 were taken from the original version of
the MMPI.
The test is scored on 18 scales (20 FOLK scales)
factor analysis was not used in the development
of the test, and many of the scales are highly
inter-correlated and conceptually similar.
The test is typically used with people aged 13
years and older. It takes about 4560 minutes to
complete.
CPI RELIABILITY
Despite the CPI's dichotomous response
format, the reliabilities were uniformly high
and held up well in both validation samples,
averaging .85 in the scale development
sample, .84 in the student validation sample,
and even .83 in the much older community
validation sample.
CPI STRENGTH
provides good coverage of information for the
general population as compared to tests that are
more pathologically oriented.
generally straightforward and easily understood
scale names, which makes it more user friendly
for untrained professionals and test takers
interpretation of the results may have more
immediacy and relevancy to the test takers
because the results relate to ongoing aspects of
behaviors.
CPI WEAKNESSES
CPI was not designed to predict
unidimensional traits
Some Folk Concepts scales are substantially
correlated with one another as they may be
associated to the same underlying traits
lack of theoretical justification
APPLICATION
Psychological and physical health
High school and college achievement
Effectiveness of students teachers
Effectiveness of police and military personnel
Leadership and management success.

The item format consists of five point rating:
strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree,
strongly agree.
Validity and Reliability
Reliability; internal consistency of the scales
(.86 - .95 for domain) (.56 - .90 facet scales)
Stability coefficients .51 - .83 in 3 7 years
longitudinal study
Validity is substantial , based on the
correspondence of ratings between self and
spouse , correlations with other tests and
checklist, and the construct validity of the five
factor model itself.
16 PERSONALITY FACTOR

a multiple-choice personality
questionnaire which was developed over

16 PERSONALITY FACTOR
QUESTIONNAIRE [16PF]
The major usage of this test is career
guidance, vocational exploration, and
occupational testing.
This test is popular as it can be scored and
interpreted immediately
This test also provide rich information include
personality, score profile, summary of clinical
description, cognitive factors, and need
patterns.
Reliability
Low reliability is one of the shortcoming of
this test.
Split half reliability is as low as .54.
Test retest coefficients for scales on the same
form are . 70 to .80 for same of next day
administration but much lower for longer
break interval.
