Fluidics and Fluid Logics

1) Fluidics uses fluid under pressure to perform logical operations and control functions without moving parts, providing reliability advantages over traditional hydraulics and pneumatics. 2) A key fluidic element is the bi-stable flip-flop, which uses input and control jets to direct fluid flow to alternate between two outputs in a stable state. 3) Applications of fluidic logic devices include logic functions, sensors, industrial automation, and monitoring equipment conditions.

INTRODUCTION
FLUIDICS
It is branch of fluid power engineering
Uses fluid under pressure to control and
transmit power
Various functions performed using fluid
flow phenomenon in components are Sensing
Memory
Logical functions

FLUID LOGICS
The fluidic devices having non moving
fixed parts(elements)
Uses fluid or compressible medium to
perform logical operations similar to
electronics
Also known as non-moving logic
controllers

Need for fluidics

Major problem in hydraulics and
pneumatics was wear and tear of
mechanical parts
A new type of control elements called fluid
logic elements was developed
They have minimum number of
mechanical moving parts thus no wear and tear
more reliable

Historical background
The entire development of fluidic
technology is based on the wall
attachment phenomenon
this was first discovered by Henri Coanda
in 1932
This phenomenon is called as Coanda
effect

Advantages
NO WEAR AND TEAR OF ELEMENTS
NO ACTUATING FORCE IS REQUIRED
REQUIRES LESS SPACE TO MOUNT
QUITE INSENSITIVE TO
TEMPEATURE,DIRT ETC.
SIMPLER IN CONSTRUCTION,SMALL IN
SIZE AND PRODUCTION COST IS LESS
MOST RELIABLE UNDER CNDITION SUCH
AS SHOCK,VIBRATIONS AND MAGNETIC
INTERFERANCE

Disadvantages
NOT SUITABLE FOR HIGH PRESSURE WORKS

NOT SUITABLE FOR INCOMPRESIBLE FLUIDS(LIKE OIL)

GREAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE MANUFACTURING
OF COMPONENTS FOR A SPECIFIC OPERATION

FLUIDIC DEVICES HAVE SLOW SPEEDS AND LOW

PRESSURE OUTPUTS
MAINTENANCE IS DIFFICULT SINCE FLUIDIC SYSTEMS
ARE VERY SMALL IN SIZE

Fluidic elements
Fluidic elements are the non-moving fixed
parts in fluidic devices
Help to perform various logic functions
