Since 1949: Current Faculty Strength 33 (29 + 4)

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) was established in 1949. It currently has 33 faculty members and specializes in structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, remote sensing, transportation, and environmental engineering. It accepts 10 PhD students, 50 MTech students, and 56 BTech/dual degree students annually. The head of the department's message discusses how India is undergoing major infrastructure expansion, requiring civil engineers to play an important role. The department has updated its curriculum, laboratories, and involves younger students in projects to meet these needs. It maintains strong industry and research links both within and outside the country.
