1 . How old are you?

Having analysed the responses from survey monkey, I was able


to create a graph for the quantitative results. This graph
allows my group to make our thriller appeal to people aged 15-
30, as the graph connotes that the majority of people that
watch thrillers are those in this age range. Also, we will cast
people around this age to make it more appealing to the target
audience, by being able to relate to the characters. We will
include elements of interests people in this age range enjoy,
which will also appeal to our target audience.
2 . How highly do you rate the
thriller genre in general?

From the graph it shows that the majority of the people watch
thrillers regularly, given the thriller genre a medium rate.
Therefore the graph gives us an insight that people do watch
thrillers and do enjoy watching them.
Please explain you answer to the question
above . Stating either what you like or
dislike about the genre ;

“I love the suspense of a thriller, and


i would have said that I rated the
genre "highly", but they are not my
favourite genre in the film industry,
as the option states. I enjoy
thrillers highly.”

immense. You don't know what will
happen and the majority of stunts are
top class.”

Having picked, a couple of the best responses, it tells us that my


target audience enjoy the suspense of a thriller and the fact that
you cant predict what will happen next. This information will help
us in our production as it will allow us to make it an
unpredictable thriller which create suspense for the audience. We
will do this by keeping the audience in the dark and make them ask
questions about what is happening by

The results that were given, were quite different. However, “the
usual suspects” has a twist, which we plan to use in our
production. The thrillers suggested all have the “edge of the
seat” effect and that suspense feeling. We will create a twist
which will have an impact on the audience as it twists
generally leave the audience ‘fooled’. Also, we will create the
edge of the seat effect by keeping the audience in the dark,
but also hinting out clues which they will need to use their
intelligence to understand.
What makes this thriller film more enjoyable than
others? ( i . e Could include comments on key scenes ,
plot , acting etc .)

Memento is another film that will help us in our production


as it has a non-linear narrative structure. We will use a non-
linear structure by possibly including flashbacks. Also, we
will use the ‘twists’ similar to the usual suspects, which
will be done by not knowing the killer, but the audience
feel as if they know the killer through clues, but then at
the end the big twist is an unexpected killer. From these
responses they suggested that, that is what they enjoyed
about the films.
6 . Which of the following sub - genres do
you prefer?

The majority of the people prefer Action thrillers, like The


Dark Knight, which will help us in our production as we may
like to use action as our target audience enjoy this sub-
genre. Also, another sub-genre that was popular was a
psychological thriller like, Red dragon, which could also
help us by thinking about making our thriller psychological.
7 . Why do you prefer this sub - genre? ( i . e specific
aspects or conventions )
“you can really feel what he's going through, its very
realistic, being set in a phonebooth, the claustrophobia adds
to the tension: no escape. the heightened tension through
music probably, makes it more enjoyable to watch. the fact he
has a time limit makes you really get involved with the
action and want him to succeed”

paranoia harking back to the novels of
Philip K. Dick of who I am a huge fan.”

The responses to this question allows us to know that people


like something that seems to be realistic and something that
you can relate to, also, the audience enjoy sub-genre’s that are
exciting but also work in a psychological matter. We will do
this by maybe using a psychological issue in one of the
characters which our production can explore, this will allow
us to make our thriller realistic as possible, by using
elements that are in society today in our thriller. This will
help us in our production as it will allow us to think to
involve elements of these reactions in our opening sequence.
Analysing the graph it allows me to see that the majority of
the people enjoy thrillers that give the “edge of the seat”
effect, also people enjoy the suspense, intrigued and scared
feeling. The graph helps us with our production as it allows
us to add factors that will make people feel this way. We will
insure that our thriller includes elements to make the
audience feel this way. We will create suspense by not
revealing everything to the audience, and they have to make
assumptions to what is going on, which will then create the
edge of the seat effect as the audience is left in the dark.

like to include in the film?

These few responses, all want something that will be exciting,


yet different from others. Therefore, this will help in our
production by allowing us to create an interesting storyline
that develops throughout and also something which the audience
was not expecting. This will be done by having a unique and
different storyline, and also using technology, such as special
effects to create something different and unusual.
