BASICS OF NEC PASOLINK

V4 (PDH); LOGIN, SETUP

AND TROUBLESHOOTING

Prepared by:
Hashir Mohmad Shah

OVERVIEW
NEC Pasolink V4(PDH) is a point-to-point wireless access

radio system currently deployed in RCOM Network.

Supports traffic Capacities of 2x2, 4x2, 8x2, 16x2 Mbps
(i.e., maximum 16 E1s supported)
In addition to the current E1 interfaces, two 10/100
BASE-T interface ports are provided. They enable
flexible
allocation of bandwidth between E1 and 10BASE-T
traffic.
Each of the 10/100BASE-T(X) channels can be assigned
any
of the following data rates: 2/8/17/34 Mbps, and the
remaining capacity can be allotted to E1 usage.

TOOLKITS REQUIRED
RS232 Cable is required for local login into NEC Pasolink PDH whose one

end is 9-PIN Female from laptop side and 15-PIN Male from IDU side.

SNMP Service Setting

In order for PNMTj LCT to run, SNMP Service

has to be either removed or shut down

Since SNMP Service is required while logging

in Ericsson equipment e.g., AXX, PTN, etc, so

we cannot completely remove it but have to
shut it down incase it is running while logging
into NEC Pasolink

PNMTj application
will give following
error if SNMP
Service is Running

Goto SNMP Service

and end the process
and after that PNMT
application will run
smoothly

Run PNMTj software. On

the login window enter
Username as admin and
leave password blank. Set
connection on Dialup and
Select PNMT(RS232C) as
dial-up entry and click
Login

IMPORTANT POINTS
The NE is logged via the LA Port present on the

front panel of the Pasolink equipment

There is no separate Alarms list option available in

NEC Pasolink V4 and therefore alarms are to be

checked on each unit i.e., ODU, IDU separately
while troubleshooting
We cannot perform Soft patching in it; media is

forwarded on a particular TDM channel and is

received on the same channel at the other end
just like we do in Minilink-E by checking the color

IMPORTANT POINTS
The equipment supports a maximum of 16

Electrical channels that can be taken as

physical drop from two front panel electrical
ports each supports 8 Channels.
Has two 10/100M Ethernet ports for ethernet
media drop for NodeB or forwarding
Remember that it has a maximum traffic
capacity of 16x2 Mbps, so it has to be decided
as per planning how much is needed for TDM
traffic and how much for ethernet media
