Meaningful Learning Theory

This document discusses David Ausubel's meaningful learning theory. It provides an overview of Ausubel's biography and the basic concepts of his theory, including that learning is hierarchical and based on linking new information to existing cognitive structures. The document also outlines the four processes of meaningful learning according to Ausubel: derivative subsumption, correlative subsumption, superordinate learning, and combinational learning. Finally, it discusses the principles of Ausubel's theory for classroom instruction, focusing on presenting general concepts first, relating new and old ideas, and using advance organizers to provide cognitive roadmaps for students.
