Revising is intentionally looking at ways of
improving your essay. Revision is an opportunity to revisit and rethink your or someone elses assignment or topic, who the intended reader or audience is, and the purpose or thesis.
Editing is correcting the mechanics of your
essay like sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Self-Editing Self-editing covers several elements in reviewing an academic writing such as: 1. A strong thesis statement 2. Clear topic sentences 3. Specific supporting details 4. Coherence 5. Effective conclusion 6. Checking grammar and spelling errors Peer-Editing Peer editing is an interactive process of reading and commenting on a classmates writing. Here, you will exchange your first draft with a classmate, read each others work, and make suggestion for improvement. Peer feedback vs Teacher feedback Feedback enhances student achievement by highlighting progress rather than deficiency. Informal teacher feedback Check-ups and check-ins are used to see how students are progressing, answer questions or help with ideas Formal teacher feedback Teacher can provide suggestions and comments along with individualized goal setting Peer to peer feedback With the use of structured peer feedback, students give and receive feedback on their current work. How should I give peer-feedback?
1. Understand the concept of essay writing.
2. Read your friends essay thoroughly. 3. Understand types of feedback, such as direct and indirect feedback, and metalinguistic feedback. 4. Able to give corrective comments by circling words, underlying sentences, or writing some notes. 5. Able to explain all the suggested feedbacks. What to review? 1.
