Stall Warning & Anti-Skid System

This document discusses stall warning systems and anti-skid systems. For stall warning systems, it describes the reed-type, switch-type, and vane-type sensors. For anti-skid systems, it explains the wheel speed sensor, anti-skid control unit, and control valves. The stall warning systems provide warnings before the aircraft reaches its stall angle of attack, while the anti-skid system prevents the main landing gear wheels from locking up to optimize braking efficiency.

1. Stall warning system
① Introduction
• For providing warning, before the stall AoA is reached.
(require a sensor to detect stall condition)

• Angle of Attack(AoA) Indicators

1. Stall warning system
② Reed type
• Located in the wing leading
edge.

• Using scoop and a reed.

(Analog)

• As AoA increases, the point of

stagnation moves down and
the air makes reed vibrate
and sound (horn).

③ Switch-type
• Located in the wing leading edge.

• At low or normal AoA, the tab is

held down.

• At near stall AoA, the micro-switch

is closed by the airflow.

• Completes the warning circuit that

activates a light or horn.

④ Vane-type
• Located in the outside of the
fuselage.

• Free to rotate in the wind.

• Vane is connected to a synchro

that provides AoA to the system.

• At near stall AoA, Stick shaker is

activated.

① Introduction
• For preventing the main landing
gear wheels from locking up and
optimizing braking efficiency.

• Use electrical devices for

② Wheel Speed Sensor
• Wheel speed sensor is a
transducer.

• The AC speed sensor provide

2. Anti-skid system
③ Anti-skid Control unit
(In case of B737)
• Convert AC frequency to DC
voltage.

• Control unit compares aircraft

speed to wheel speed.

• Use the velocity comparator to

adjust brake pressure
(Increasing or decreasing). <Anti-Skid Control Unit>

④ Control Valves
• Control valves is electrically
and hydraulic valves.

• The torque motor use the

control unit input and adjust
position of flapper, to make the
brake pressure increase or
decrease.
