SAP stands for “System Applications and


Products” in Data Processing.
It is the largest business software company in
the world and also the largest ERP solution
software provider.

IBM employees named: Hasso Plattner,
Dietmar Hopp, Claus Wellenreuther, Klaus
Tschira, and Hans-Werner Hektor in 1972.

It is 1 tier architecture (1 server- Presentation+
Application+ Database)
 SAP R/2: It is 2nd version launched in 1979. It is 2
tier architecture (1server-Presnt, server 2- App + DB)
 SAP R/3: It is the client/server version of the
software launched in 1992. It is 3 tier architecture (1-
Presnt.,2-App,3-DB)
R/3 architecture was replaced by ERP Central
Component (ECC)
