3d Trigonometry

1) The length of the diagonal of the square base was calculated to be 325.27m using Pythagoras' theorem 2) A right angled triangle was drawn with the height (139m) as the opposite side and half the diagonal (162.63m) as the adjacent side 3) The angle was calculated to be 40.5° using tangent 4) The distance walked would be 162.63m So in summary, the angle walked would be 40.5° and the distance 162.63m.

Can you find the value of x in this diagram to 2dp? Be

careful with rounding answers!

3D Trigonometry
• We have looked at using trigonometry in lots of
situations

• Today we will be focusing on using it in 3D

problems

• The key to answering questions in 3D is thinking

about separate parts of them in 2D

• You will find that making quick sketches as you

work will help you visualise what to do!

ABCDEFGH is a cuboid, as shown.

139m So you would be walking up at an

angle of 40.5°

139m 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2
Sub in values
